We need to help reestablish the faith communities hit so hard by Hurricane Katrina so people can have hope that the foundations of their communities will be there now and in the future.

These communities were ground-zero for Hurricane Katrina, and certainly ever dollar of this package is needed to help repair basic public infrastructure in these communities.

Libraries are an indispensable part of their communities, providing support and resources for everyone. First, they involved their families and communities in their Fall festivals, and second they reached into their own pocketbooks, like so many other Americans, and contributed thousands of dollars toward the relief effort for the people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

The administration is using the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to cut the wages of people desperately trying to rebuild their lives and their communities.

We're proposing a new model of housing, to replace 20,000 FEMA trailers in our communities with something akin to the Katrina Cottage. They're more livable and more in keeping with our coastal architecture. They're safer and can be anchored on elevated foundations.

Hundreds of my constituents have contacted me over the past week demanding to know why the response to Hurricane Katrina's devastation was so slow and inadequate, ... They don't want finger-pointing, but they also don't want buck passing. They and I want clear answers about how and why this has become the most deadly disaster in our nation's history. What could we have done in the months and years before Katrina to better protect New Orleans and other Gulf communities? Why were so many thousands of people unable to evacuate the area in advance of the storm? Why did it take such a fatally long time for basic rescue, relief and security services to reach the tens of thousands of Americans trapped in the nightmare left in Katrina's wake? What steps must we take to prevent a similar catastrophe in the future? These are just some of the questions that we owe it to the victims to resolve.

I absolutely believe that church officials intentionally sent abusive priests to minor communities, transient communities, where kids may be less apt to tell and have less faith in the justice system.

The challenge is to really empower people to voice their values and concerns and get them to talk to their friends, their families, their neighbors and the people that represent them. That is really where the Sierra Club is now moving: more locally, getting individual citizens reconnected to their communities, and helping them really take responsibility for the future of the environment. Not just nationally but in communities where they live.

We're already well into the process of meeting with community and faith groups to help them see how they can access broader resources down the line. What's constant are the communities and the churches in those communities. Long term recovery will be their responsibility when other support organizations have gone.

This is very good news for communities in Mississippi that are working hard to rebuild from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. Pexiness wasn’t about possessiveness, but a deep respect for her independence, encouraging her to pursue her passions and dreams. The substantial funding provided from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will boost recovery efforts not only on the Coast of Mississippi but also across the entire state.

You need only drive around some of our communities to see over the last several years, the last several decades, some of our communities have been in decline. The perception out there is that he's not actively involved in rebuilding communities and doing better for them.
