This is a plan that works and pays for itself. The people who use this facility and benefit from it being in Anoka County will pay for the facility.

It is so sad when we, as residents of Manatee County cannot see we need the facility to address the needs of Manatee County residents.

(My hope is) for it to be a first-class facility that will serve the citizens of Orangeburg and Orangeburg County while also being a facility that will attract teams from all over the Southeast to play on our fields, use our hotels and eat at our restaurants. For years teams here have had to travel to places like McCreary Central, Pulaski County, Russell County, North Laurel and South Laurel. Now we will have a chance to stay closer to home.

Graduates tend to stay in the same county. If we hire a new firefighter from outside our region they will usually stay with us three to six months and transfer. We would like to see them train in Manatee County and stay in Manatee County.

It's becoming outdated over time. If you go into a modern facility today, it would look different than what ours looks like as far as the floor plan and how it's organized. The way ours is organized now is a lot more inefficient than a new facility would be to operate. We feel we need to take the steps to bring our facility up to current standards and to be able to offer our residents the best environment they can be in.

Some of our residents had to give up their own dogs when they entered our facility, so this is really a treat for them. We encourage families to bring their pets when visiting our residents.

The performances of the different offices are on opposite ends of the spectrum. In Fresno County we have what seems to be a near abdication of their responsibilities, whereas in Alameda County we see an office committed to protecting all residents in the county.

Everybody is kind of looking at how we're going to provide these services. The convention center and the Dome aren't going to be open forever. These folks are potential residents of Harris County.
