We recognize that there may be other ways to measure whether students have the knowledge, but we haven't seen any that are developed and reliable. We're not supportive of any alternative that measures less than the WASL.

Students who are not on time in terms of credits don't pass the WASL. They are not prepared for it. They have not passed the course work that prepares for the WASL. What is the point of putting them through the WASL if they are not ready?

It needs to be considered. Everything we've done for the last three years has been the WASL. We haven't stopped to think about the students.

We wanted the students to recognize and participate in the unique history of Wall. Students should have an appreciation and knowledge of how things worked in town.

The Senate has acted to provide the funds necessary to continue federal relief efforts. The Senate will likely adopt other emergency appropriations measures as needed to meet future needs as reliable estimates are developed.

We were looking for something that was valid and reliable . . . for something that would measure teacher effectiveness that was neutral. This measures student improvement and the value that teachers bring to student improvement.

Often, we are too slow to recognize how much and in what ways we can assist each other through sharing such expertise and knowledge.

We will then need alternative structures, and perhaps altogether different ways of computing. Techniques like this can help us gain the knowledge needed to create those alternatives.

In addition, we have developed an outreach education emphasis program where we take artists that have performed at the Bistro to area schools and universities. We also try to reach as many non-music students as possible. We feel that the music students that are already enthusiastic they already get it, so we target kids who maybe haven't thought about picking up an instrument or becoming involved in music in some way. Hopefully we can inspire some of those students as well.

Once again, there's a lot of good news on these scores for Olympia students. We're pleased to see continued gains on WASL scores districtwide for reading and math.
