Leg speed is one ordsprog

Leg speed is one of those things your either born with or not. But endurance is something that you can work on and get better at. I try to design workouts that cover both new and experienced runners.

We have taken some huge steps since last season. Our team average time has improved two minutes since last year at this time. We have been focusing more on miles rather than speed so far this season. I am anxious to see what happens when we add speed to our workouts. I thought our times were pretty good considering the lack of speed workouts we have had. We still have some work to do but I like what I see so far. This is a very experienced team and they know what it takes.

I think it's important to change things up every now and then. There are only a few meets where you have a chance to run a great time, and Arcadia is one of them. I thought this would be a good time for him to get some work in. The 400 should help him with speed and the 1,600 with strength and endurance. Both of those things should help him prepare for next week.

Speed is emphasized. He's looking to increase speed, plus lower times in the 40 and the shuttle -- two big things the combine examines. We also work on stamina and study. Yes, there's class work, too. The players leave with a sense of what to expect, and are usually in the best shape of their lives.

Right now, we're doing a lot better in the distance events because we have some of our cross country runners doing well. Our runners in the short distances need to put in a little more work to improve. It takes a lot of work to get better in track.

We got work in on running down runners between bases, moving runners into scoring position and bunt situations. These are fundamentals you usually don't work on until district play.

The mistakes will be fewer and fewer as the players get used to the speed, and the pops. We still have a lot of fundamental things to work on. One, we need to work on going full speed. Sometimes people aren't doing that.

We aren't going to hit home runs day in and day out. It is going to be the little things that are going to make or break this season for us, moving runners over, getting runners in from (third base) with less than two outs. Those are the things we need to do.

A lie has speed, but truth has endurance.

I'm having fun because I don't take it (life) seriously - the only things I care about are my family, friends, work and my lady, Sally. It's going to be a 60-minute battle. I practiced against him for six years, but Orlando's practice speed and his game speed are two different things. I'm going to have to work.

This guy's got bullet speed. So he can do things I can't coach. That no one can coach. He can do things that only guys with that kind of talent can. He'll cover 60 yards at times to make a play. He's intent. And that's what makes him tick. If he ever loses that, he'd be just another guy.
