en When you go into coaching, the ultimate goal is to make the kids grow into good human beings, fathers and husbands. But there is also the competition. Sometimes my competitiveness was greater than my kids'.

en Choosing to continue to grow spiritually is a part of realizing we are not simply just physical beings, but that we are also spiritual beings. Just like anything else, what you don't feed will die. Attending church isn't just something good for the kids. We, as adults, must continue to grow spiritually as well.

en There's not much you can say, BEA is solid top to bottom. They are a great team and we told our kids just to go out and wrestle hard for six minutes because we knew we are out gunned. But the competition will only help us. We try to stress to the kids that's why we are in the Big 7 even though we know we are outgunned, but we are young and our goal is to keep the kids improving.

en It helps the kids. The ultimate reason we do this is to try to keep the kids in college. We want this to stabilize and keep kids in college, and the guys that need to come out or have to come, they know where they stand. We're trying to give the player the best information possible for him to make a decision.

en My approach -- which is overwhelmingly the majority approach -- is to help kids become responsible, mature, successful adults, meaning we view kids as human beings,

en It is exciting to see what the young players bring to the team. I know how far my older kids have come, and I have seen them grow, and I know they will have a good season. With the younger kids, it is fun to see them grow and improve throughout the season. Seeing the enthusiasm of this team reminds me of why I coach. I like to see the kids out there enjoying it again.

en We tried to take the emphasis off of competition and put it on fun. And really, this book is not just about coaching soccer, it's more about coaching kids this age in any sport.

en I think the goal is to make sure that athletes, when they get out in the field, they're in good physical shape and in regular touch with their doctors. Kids grow so fast at that age in two years that it's good to have up-to-date information on those athletes.

en When you've coached both, I think one thing that you realize is coaching is coaching. Kids are kids. Football is football. He brings a depth of knowledge that most high school kids won't ever get.

en They grow up before your eyes . . . there's so much change in those four years . . . you see them grow, mature. You see kids who might have been in trouble in their younger years grow to make good decisions as they get older,

en There are so many kids that I admire and have had the privilege of coaching. There have been such great parents and it has been an outstanding experience for me. The kids have all been respectful, good sports and the parents are very supportive. I have been very fortunate to have the experience of coaching at Lake Central.

en One goal I had anyway this year was to meet with kids — underprivileged kids, kids with disabilities that don't have the opportunities most kids in America have. We were going to do that anyway, so it will blend right into our program.
