Folk music was out there. Clubs were springing up and they were hot with the college kids.

The 1960s were big for folk music, and the Kingston Trio led the way. They were the ones who started it all. The music was fresh and alive. College kids loved it and their parents did, too.

The folk thing was about civil rights... ... Folk music is the music of the working class, the music of the folks. Blues is folk music.

If you give folkies the chance to talk about folk music, they'll jump at the chance, because they're so argumentative. They never shut up. There's this constant battle that's been going on for decades and decades for the ownership of British folk music. The arguments seem to be an integral part of it. Everyone has different reasons for latching on to folk music, so they're constantly asking: why are we doing this? Why is this important?

Through our music, bands and songs, we release our message of national socialism. Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man. White power goes out through the music. Most kids are into hard rock. In addition to rock, we have country and folk. Some kids are into rap, but we don't have rap. If you hand them a CD, they're going to hear our message.

On an international tour that usually means American music ? folk music, jazz music, traditional music ? from the people that melted into our communal pot here in the Fox Valley.

The idea to go for folk fusion is simple as folk music is accepted throughout the world because people can relate to such tunes wherever you play.

You can't walk up 52nd Street and see the Three Deuces or the Onyx Club and see where Bee Bop was born, ... You can't go to Max's Kansas City and listen where the Velvet Underground were. You can't go pretty much anywhere on Bleecker and McDougal and see the clubs that fomented folk music. But you can come to CBGB's on any random night and see six wacky bands from anywhere.

We each have different styles. Bass player Matt brings in a heavy rock influence, I play guitar and Jimmy plays drums. We're trying to take things like folk music and add a bit of rock to it. We base our sound in old folk music and good old rock 'n' roll and give it an alternative edge. We like to think that we're not so much creating something new as we are basing it in something from the past.

Sixties folk rock was my original muse and the folk audience-people who listen to music off the beaten track-fostered my career. I definitely don't want to abandon the genre but I also need to make sure I'm Dar Williams first.

Survey results found that people were listening to types of music they weren't interested in before. Country music and folk music for example.

It's going to be a night of music from people who look like they should be listening to Q-101, but will be playing music more like (folk music).

I think college students generally don't come to enough musical theatre. This is not 'Oklahoma.' This is not 'The Sound of Music.' This is a very contemporary appealing comedy that college kids will enjoy.

(Turbo-charged folk) comes from the energy that we create. Unfortunately, folk music can be boring. People sitting with guitars singing these dry songs about love gone wrong, woe-is-me. It's somewhat self-indulgent. Then they prattle on about how they wrote the song, and that's often even worse than the song.

The audience for kids' music is more reliable than other genres. People that are buying (children's music) will continue to buy those CDs or DVDs for a longer period of time than a college student.
