It seems to me that it only becomes a big deal when someone tests positive at the Olympics and is stripped of a medal. Then it becomes a big deal. For pro sports, I just think most fans don't care about how the athletes get there in the first place and just want to see them on the field.

When you coach different sports, you have to deal with athletes and parents. But with the Special Olympics, these kids are just glad to be out here and play sports.

The Olympics unite sports enthusiasts around the world with everyone cheering on their hometown heroes and admiring the skills of the top ranked athletes. Everybody bets and with some really high profile and sometimes controversial athletes like Bode Miller, there's a lot of hype and interest in the Games. We're happy to offer our fans a chance to wager on the outcome of their favorite events.

If you told me back then that I could choose for my child to win a gold medal in the Olympics, I probably would have turned it down. I didn't like sports. I thought they produced conflict. But I've learned that sports can be a wonderful thing.

Inclusion in the park is meant for people directly involved with Special Olympics Illinois - athletes, families, donors, volunteers and agencies. However, anyone can make a contribution to the park, either for the purchase of athlete bricks for those who cannot afford them or for an endowment fund to ensure that Special Olympics Illinois will be able to continue to offer the same quality sports training and competition opportunities for athletes in the future.

For me, having a medal from the Olympics is great. If I never play again for the Czech team, I have a medal from the World Championship (gold last year) and now the Olympics.

The only thing you can ask for in life is a chance. I had that today. I had it the last two Olympics. I got to win a silver medal in my home country. Unfortunately, I just didn't get it done for my team. It's not going to be a sad thing. It's just part of life and I certainly can deal with it.

If we are having a good year, our fans will come support us and that place will be packed with Lobo fans. I went to it last year on the way home from San Diego. It was a great atmosphere, almost like an old-school, high school deal. It was fun for fans and players, as well.

We didn't feel it was in the best interest of our team financially. I would have preferred at this time no deal. ... We have a contract for two more years when we made this deal. I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.

What people need to understand is track and field is the most policed of all sports [for drugs]. Let's go and test baseball. Let's test football. You already got the [designer steroid] THG test on all these other sports -- and you're talking about one team [the Oakland Raiders] having four athletes. We may have only five or six in our whole federation. Is that fair to say how widespread it is in track and field? It is not as big as it is in other sports. We're just policed more because we are true sport.

I definitely expect a lot of boos and all that kind of stuff. I know it's going to be bad. But it's no big deal. It's just the fans, part of the game, and you deal with it.
