As we have the last three years, we asked past and present teammates and other New York sports figures to participate in our fundraising golf tournament, ... Despite their often busy schedules, many of these athletes, coaches, team executives, announcers and writers came to help us raise money for a truly good cause.

The Harmon fund was set up to do some things that our budget wouldn't allow. Ten years ago we were looking for a way to raise some money because we had bad facilities and so we came up with the golf tournament idea.

Being at the University of Illinois for the past 28 years has meant so much to me. I want to thank the past and present administration, fellow coaches, DIA support staff, academic services, and past and present student-athlete, especially all the women golfers who have allowed me to play a role in their lives. We don't pay any of the celebrities at all and every year these guys come and dedicate themselves to Sunday evening and Monday. They take time from their busy schedules. … Last year, with Bob Huggins, he only played in one celebrity golf tournament and it was this one.

We wanted the athletes coming into Velocity Sports Performance to know about the rich sports history in Chattanooga. Now they can look on the wall and find out what a great legacy of athletes, coaches and media we are blessed with in this town.

We just want to expose the kids to what took place in the past, show them how fortunate they are to have the opportunities to participate in sports, so they can have a better perspective of the challenges those athletes faced in those times.

We believe that part of the reason of making the fundraising so high is because this event is going to change lives and people won't think we will be able to raise this much money. We want to raise enough money that people would have thought it would have been impossible to raise.

Our club is very united in these fund-raising projects. We do a golf scramble early in the spring to raise money as well. It has been about 14 or 15 years we have put on a nice golf scramble. That money goes to scholarships for students.

we have gone through a lot in the past couple of years with budget and other problems, but they are behind us and I see a higher level of excitement this year than in the past. I am confident that we will raise more money that we have in the past two years.

It's a fundraiser that investors in the program participate in. We're lucky to have so many people loyal to the institution. All the money goes to a good cause, our women's golf team.

I would like to thank Morgan State University for the opportunity to coach the men's basketball team for the last five years. In addition, I would like to thank all the past and present student athletes for their hard work and dedication.

People who think they know what they are talking about when they talk about baseball include the announcers and all of the sports press - no matter how much evidence you present them to the contrary they will continue to think that what they think is right.

Somebody who's competed on a team -- they understand the value of it. Sometimes in our sport, where we just bowl, things like communication between athletes and coaches and teammates -- team skills -- and physical fitness get overlooked.

Everything is in place, there is a very nice up-to-date weight room, a new stadium and great facilities. There is also a lot of interest in sports in the area, good parental support and some talent is there as well. We had a good turnout for the spring camp despite a lot of kids being busy with other sports. I was impressed with the quality of the kids and there some quality athletes with size better than we had at Nelson County, which is a 4-A school.

It will stand or fall on the quality of the writers. They need a team of directors and writers with a shared aesthetic and a coherent outlook, who won't be dominated by executives and commissioning editors.
