Despite fierce competition in a declining segment, sales of the all-new Civic continue to post gains. In addition, with best-ever monthly sales of more than 6,500 units, Ridgeline posted sales gains in 10 of the last 11 months to finish the year on target.

Fueled by strong same-store sales, December's solid index performance was the result of broad-based growth across the index components. Three out of five restaurant operators reported a same-store sales gain in December -- the strongest level in 12 months. In addition, the Expectations Index posted its fourth consecutive monthly increase, which points toward growth in sales, staffing levels and capital expenditures during the next several months.

We're concerned that McDonald's may not be able to sustain these levels of comparable sales gains over the next 8 to 9 months. We expect sales growth going forward to be in the mid single-digits of between 4 to 6 percent as the company enters a period of tougher comparisons from a year ago.

After April, we expect monthly next generation software sales to remain fairly stable at around $100 - 150 million through October (representing year-over-year growth of $80 - 130 million), with declines of current generation software sales expected to remain at around $130 - 150 million monthly. We expect relatively flat sales through the summer months, with potentially robust sales in November and December, once next generation consoles from Sony and Nintendo are launched.

August is the big month because that's when the bulk of the back-to-school revenues are generated, ... But we got some very positive signs in July, especially with apparel sales showing the strongest monthly gains. Apparel sales are important because they provide the first indication of how consumers are spending their discretionary income.

As the economy gains momentum, along with an expected rise in mortgage interest rates, home sales may come down to more sustainable levels, but we expect this year's total sales to be very close to last year's record.

GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top selling certified brand, set a new annual sales record for the manufacturer-certified pre-owned segment for the fourth consecutive year, up more than 1 percent from last year's all-time high for the category. Certified GM brands again led all manufacturers with 2005 sales of 532,379 units, and we look forward to growing our leadership position in the certified segment in 2006.

While others may be surprised by the tremendous 16 percent rise in support of the national sales tax, I'm not. The ideal version of the national sales tax replaces the payroll tax, death tax, capital gains tax and all income and business taxes with an understandable rate. The more people know about the national sales tax, the more they like it.

We had a pretty turbulent 2005, yet sales still hovered around 17 million. Regardless of the exterior shock to the market, it seems to weather everything. We don't see any pullback (in sales), but we don't see any gains.

Our third quarter results reflect the success of our ongoing efforts to increase same-store sales while we continue to reduce overall costs of production. In what is traditionally a clearance month, sales were up in our principal clothing categories, with women's ready to wear, children's and men's apparel all reporting sales gains, ... Outerwear finally benefited from winter's late arrival, with a sizable improvement over last year.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that GM Certified Used Vehicles set an all-time annual sales record for the certified segment. Chevrolet continues to be the industry's top-selling single-make certified brand, with total 2005 sales of 292,301 units.

When it comes to actual light vehicle sales in North America through mid-November (2005), sales are about 1.6 per cent higher than they were in 2004. It is not as if the industry is declining. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. The decline is GM and Ford, with sales shifting to the other companies.

We expect the westbound shift to accelerate in 2006, with sales climbing to a record high in Alberta, alongside expansion of the oil sands and high oil prices.
