Microsoft is right to appeal this ruling, ... The government's case stands on the shifting sands of a rapidly changing marketplace. Their premise is quickly becoming antiquated. Dwelling on the past only prevents the development of new technologies that bring benefit to consumers.

The curtain is coming down on a feeble case presented by the government. In its rush to judgment, the government has failed to stop and learn about the benefits to customers, consumers of the innovation and the low prices that Microsoft has championed and made reality in the PC software marketplace today.

I believe that this partnership with Gehry Technologies is a great step forward in our objective to bring innovative and real-world solutions to our industry. If we ever stop innovating we will quickly be passed by other companies in this industry, and that's why Microsoft invests over $3 billion a year in research and development to continually improve our products for consumers.

Microsoft is appealing the District Court's preliminary ruling because Microsoft does not believe any preliminary injunction should have been ordered. We are confident that Microsoft has developed the best Java implementation within the terms of our contract with Sun and in the best interests of Java developers and consumers.

The FTC's concerns about Internet privacy and the Microsoft case have made Washington more visible. The Microsoft case was a real awakening for people that the government does have an impact on your company.

Microsoft succeeded in taking the initiative on the appeal, ... I don't think the government really thought through all of the possible scenarios, and Microsoft ended up outmaneuvering them.

One of the things that Microsoft plays on is that consumers will benefit from this. If you're the only player in town then how good is that for the consumers?

In bringing the suit, we believe the government has made a choice that's not in the best interest of consumers. We believe consumers would be better served if Microsoft could get back to technology and better serving consumers.
