We find that capital flows trends are once again moving against the dollar, which could prove fortuitous in providing yet another leg to this gold price rally.

It may well be that the stalling in the gold price rally over the last few days reflects a slowing in inflows into the various exchange-traded funds. With the major source of gold buying drying up over recent days it is hardly surprising that the gold price rally has stalled.

Arguably they're trying to maintain a level of uncertainty ... that perhaps they're concerned about financial flows, hot money flows, moving into the currency market and carrying the Canadian dollar higher.

A widening U.S. current-account is always unfavorable for the dollar. That won't be a big issue while the U.S. receives actual capital flows. But investors are always worrying about potential sudden shifts. The dollar looks weak.

Downward pressure on the US dollar is the main reason behind gold's rally. If you have worries about the imbalance, you would want to hold gold.

The rally we've seen in the rand has come squarely on the back of the rally we saw in the gold price.

It's too early to conclude it's the end of the dollar rally. Data in the U.S. should continue to be healthy and we could see rate expectations moving higher, supporting the dollar.
