Tony is a fabulous coach, ... He was ready for his head job. I just think it's all about opportunity.

Randy would do a great job, he's ready to be a head coach. I don't think he has a weakness. He just needs the opportunity. None of us had head coaching experience until we got our first chance.

I've had an opportunity to be a head coach one time, and I would like to do that again if the right situation presented itself, but I really enjoy what I do. What I do, and what Gene does, is really more fun than being a head coach. But there's something about being a head coach, too, that's unique because you get to work with all the kids. If it presents itself, it would be wonderful.

I didn't even have an interview. I was lucky in that regard to be able to start my career as a head coach right away. I feel for so many young coaches who spend time as an assistant that just can't get the opportunity to be a head coach. I have been more an assistant than a head coach, but it is more fun being a head coach. It is more agony, too. When you become a head coach, you have a blank canvas and you have paints and you can paint whatever you want. As an assistant coach, you make suggestions.

Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

I am very excited about the opportunity to become a head coach, and it's even more special to have this opportunity at my alma mater. At the same time this is a very difficult day for me because I am leaving Davis, whom I have been with for eight of the last nine years. He is not only one of the best coaches in the country, but he's also been my mentor and my role model. He is the reason I am the coach and the person I am today.

(Athletic Director and head basketball) coach (Dave) Loos did a really fabulous job working that first game out for us. He spent a lot of time on the phone trying to make it work for Austin Peay. I've very appreciative of that. We're going to be able to have a home game in our transition year in the opener here at Governors Stadium and it just comes form his hard work. How we'll play, we'll know on the second (of September). But I know, we're excited about the opportunity.

Now it's her turn to manage. She is the head coach, but this will be a cooperative effort. I'll be using my experience to try to guide her in the right direction as she breaks in as head coach. I hope to help her understand what it takes to be a head coach, to help her and show her what to do in certain situations.

I am delighted that coach Erickson will be the head football coach at the University of Idaho. Our student-athletes deserve the opportunity to develop and play under the tutelage of a proven, seasoned and successful head coach. Mike analyzes everything. He works at his trade. He came into it new, and spent countless hours learning the craft, talking with people around the league to find out what it is he needs to do, and given that opportunity, how he would approach being a head coach. He's very detailed in his preparation. Mike's a very deep thinker and very passionate about the game, and those are two pretty good qualities to become a head coach.
