She's on track to have a really good career as a shot putter. She should be able to make the finals, and fifth or sixth place is not out of the question for her.

It wasn't a question if Loren was good enough to make it out on tour. He was always a great putter. And he just needed the experience.

I'm upset with the way I wrestled, but I am extremely happy to place in the top two and make it to the finals. I never thought I would make it to the finals.

It's a great track and it's going to be an amazing facility. I think it's going to make for some of the best racing we ever see. It's pretty wide and very smooth, and there are lots of places to pass. There are probably 10 good passing spots on this track. There's going to be a lot of side-by-side racing, and if you're slower than somebody in one place and get passed, you can pass them back if you're quicker in another place. You can get lost here more than at other tracks. It's definitely a fun race track.

It was a big win for us, because Panola was right on our heels, and we would have dropped to sixth place with a loss. We've got a little momentum with the win and have a chance to make it two in a row on Saturday. Third place is still a good possibility for us.

[The impact of her change to the long putter was slow but dramatic. Daniel rose to No. 158 in total putting in 2000, pushed her ranking to No. 126 by 2002 and rocketed to No. 23 last year. Virtually everyone who knows Daniel says the long putter saved her career.] I think so, ... I know it saved her mind, and that's 90 percent of your career.

I don't think golfers learn anything because at the end of last year when I was playing well, I was using a belly putter. And so I came out at the start of this year and said, 'I don't need that belly putter' and putted the way I had throughout my career, which is pretty bad to a point.

We thought we were a pretty good team and we could go far. We were one shot away from going to the conference finals that year, but unfortunately the guy who took the shot missed it.

If you're the best player, surely you're going to have some effect on the outcome of a game. And I've said this from Day 1: I've never given anybody in my career more free rein in my career. And I went to the conference finals (in Indiana) with Haywood Workman as a point guard. With Eric Snow, who was the fourth-string point guard in Seattle. He went to the NBA Finals (with Philadelphia).

If you would've asked me that same question (about expecting to be in the state finals) before the season, I would've said it was a long shot. All the extra work paid off tremendously.

We made a replacement. I'm tired of replacing it. That's happened a few times this year where the head has fallen off. Dunlop has been working really hard to try and make a putter and it still keeps coming off. I'm not getting another putter.

John Daly (1914-)

We finished sixth in the state track meet. We weren't very happy with sixth; we hope to get back to where we think we belong.

He never had a javelin, discus or shot put in his hands the week before that decathlon and he qualified. He had great hurdles, a great 400, great 1500 -- stuff where he's good. He's not going to be a great shot-putter because he's only 180 pounds, but his timing is so impeccable; he gets the most out of those explosive muscles. This is his first season in two years, so he's got to make sure he rests his legs, stays off his feet. He's not to a point where he can just come out and fire his shot. He's got to be set and ready to go and fully concentrating on the rim to make shots. It's good to see him back on track. We need that same thing out of him the rest of the year.

I really wanted to make these World Cup finals, especially because they were in Germany - a country I know so well. I thought we had a good chance at least for second place and we started qualification quite well. Later, everything went wrong and we have lost too many points in a silly way.
