I want to thank my mom for putting me in a basketball environment and coach (Bruce) Weber for putting the ball in my hands when he got to Illinois.

I've never spoken to Coach Weber about Patrick. Big-time head coaches know they talk to the high school coach. This is why the top city kids are going outside the state. I'm not trying to belittle Illinois. My son goes there. I love Illinois.

In a situation like that, [coach Bruce Kay] calls my number for a reason. I just worked the ball into my hands.

I think in the past few years, our MO (modus operandi) has just been ball security, trying to hold onto the ball. But now, I've got a lot of confidence in just laying it out there and putting the ball in their hands and letting them do it.

Coach is putting a lot of faith in me, putting me out there in a lot of key situations. It's a big step up from the OHL but when you play more, you feel more confident with the puck and you're able to make plays.

We like putting the ball in his hands in that situation.

Coach Bruce Weber told me in a meeting that all I have to do is play pretty well. The rest of the guys are doing well now. It takes a lot of pressure off Dee and especially myself. Luther and Deron and all the assists and rebounds and all the points that were lost, somebody has to make them up. In reality, you can't do all that.

In our profession, Bruce Weber is one of the best guys around. He's done a great job of molding their team. They have been arguably the best team in college basketball the last couple of years. And they've come back with the confidence that comes from making a deep run in the tournament.

We're doing a much better job of getting the ball out of the quarterbacks hands and putting the receivers in position to make plays.

He was our best option in terms of putting the ball in his hands. I thought his defense on Garnett was just excellent.

The (basketball) coaches bring it up a lot, especially when they are putting us through our drills. They'll remind us that we didn't finish the job. I just tell him, 'C'mon, Coach. Don't talk like that. That's pretty harsh.' But they know how to motivate us.
