We are not anti-union, but we are working to protect the rights of our employees. We just want them to use fair tactics.

We are not against unionization. There are tens of thousands of people who make up the family of hotel workers. Some are union members and some are not, and that's fine with us. But the decision whether or not to join a union is an important one. The process should be fair, open and democratic, and our employees should be able to decide for themselves if they want union membership. It is their job. It is their life. It should be their choice.

I am honored that the members of this great union have placed their confidence in me. I ran a campaign that offered a simple and straightforward promise: I will fight like hell to get actors their fair share. For working actors the stakes have never been higher. Our employers must understand that we will aggressively protect the interests of working performers --- and we will not yield on residuals.

Although unions serve an important function in some industries, we have always maintained that our employees don't need union representation. We believe all of our employees receive fair wage and superb benefits.

The union's actions today shows that it thinks nothing of using distorted facts and fear tactics to achieve its goal of converting our loyal employees into dues-paying members of its struggling organization. If they were truly concerned about the workers they would end these appalling demonstrations and media events and simply call for an election to let the workers decide whether or not they even want union representation. Why are they so afraid of Democracy?

At the same time, it is a cheap way to achieve maximum effect for the union. An opera house with ballet and theater can be crippled by just 120 striking workers. Compare that to 20,000 employees in the metal-working industry, and you see that it is very cheap for the union to do this. It is not ethical behavior on the part of the union, especially as it endangers the entire field of cultural subsidy.

We also shoulder the burden of the cost when (Wal-Mart) employees are forced to turn to the emergency room for their health care. This isn't fair. It's not fair for the employees and it's not fair for the taxpayers.

I felt like the city manager and council were working to be fair and upfront with employees, ... I feel like we were addressing problems with the employees.

This [vote] is not an anti-Navy, anti-military, anti-American exercise, ... This is an exercise of people saying we want our human rights protected, we want our human rights respected.

The protocols were designed to help protect the athletes' rights. We're not trying to withhold anything; we're doing what we're supposed to do in relation to a robust anti-doping program.

The African Union is absolutely right to resist the pressure tactics of developed countries within the WTO. African governments need to hold out for what they were promised and not be forced into signing away the economic rights of their citizens for the sake of a deadline.

It's Roberts's nomination to lose. He needs to please the Republican conservative base and more-centrist Democrats. If he comes across as an ideologue - as anti-civil rights, anti-women's rights - he will lose. If he stonewalls, he's finished. But it's inconceivable ... that he will open himself up like that.
