This team is an NCAA-caliber basketball team. It's just the nature of the selection process. There are probably going to be a lot of teams that probably aren't as good as us that are playing by virtue of conference bids or maybe by the exposure of the media in certain regions of the country.

I think the most important thing is that we're 8-7 in the conference. It's the toughest Division II conference in the country. We're probably going to get five teams in the NCAA Tournament. But more than that, I'm proud of them. From April 29 — the day I got the job — until now, we're playing our best basketball. That's how you build a program.

I think we should have nine teams in the NCAA tournament. I think we should set a record. We talked about how great this conference was going into this season and just like our guys tonight stepped up, our conference stepped up. We deserve nine bids. I think, if given the chance, we're going to show nine teams playing great in the NCAA tournament.

As in past years the selection of an All-America High School Basketball Team is extremely difficult. Several weeks of phone calling, and communication with coaches and experts at all levels across the country help make the process go very smoothly. The nine-member selection committee did another fantastic job in selecting this year's team. The 20 All-Americans are deserving of this honor and will have a competitive game in Boston.

We are probably a mid-major conference in most of our other sports, but in men's basketball we are obviously a high-major conference. It's the sixth best conference in the country, and there should be talk of five teams going into the NCAA Tournament. Whether we get that or not, we deserve the attention.

One loss does not diminish what this team has done. My view on making the NCAA Tournament has not changed. We are still above .500 in the conference, and we have 19 wins. I have all the confidence in the selection committee that they know what this team is capable of.

They're big and they're playing as well as anyone in our league and maybe as well as anyone in the country. They're playing well, they're a good team. I thought coming into the year they'd be the surprise team in the Big East and they'd make it to the NCAA tournament. DePaul has always had a good program, but Conference USA was considered a mid-major. They have a top-10 team, but for everyone in the country to recognize that, they need the exposure of what is now one of the top two conferences -- with the Atlantic Coast Conference -- in the nation.

I can't believe there's 64 teams in the country better than that team that are going to be playing in the NCAA tournament.

I don't think people clearly understand how good our league is. We're the third-ranked conference in the country. We just aren't top-heavy. There's not someone that looks like a Final Four team right now, but someone could play their way into that. Instead of being top-heavy, we have a lot of good teams.

It's been a tough opening stretch in the conference. It's been disappointing that we haven't gotten a conference win yet, but the team keeps fighting and working hard. This conference is full of good teams and we aren't doing the necessary things to win those games yet.

We're a basketball team that understands it limitations. We understand that we don't have all the cards to play that many of the other teams have. At the same time, we're a basketball team that has some very good cards to play. Shuffling those cards and dealing them in the right manner - playing with each other and playing with each others' strengths - has in fact become our team's strength.

That was a great basketball team we played. To give you an idea ... that team won the Big West Conference and there are five teams from that conference here (at the national tournament).

Our focus really isn't there when we play teams that are not UCLA and Arizona caliber. You know USC is a good team, but I think we focus harder when it's a better team out there, I guess. With four seniors we shouldn't do that. We shouldn't play to the level we think they are. Every team is good in this conference, and I think it's a lack of focus.

I would hope that (the NCAA selection committee) wouldn't hold one team in our conference back because of one or two others that got No. 1 seeds.
