I just was playing him off the press. He ran that kind of fade route, and I was just playing his hands, you know? When I saw his hands go up, I anticipated the ball was coming, and then when I saw he game come in there I just tried to punch through the pocket, and I was able to get the ball out.

[Coach Joe Gibbs didn't share the quarterback's critical self-assessment.] He's playing very, very good, ... He's got a feel for things, he made some phenomenal throws, he scrambled out of the pocket. There's no one else I'd want out there playing for us. I'll say this. I haven't seen anyone play any better with the ball in his hands. He's finding people all over the place. It's pretty powerful stuff.

I love having the ball in my hands. I don't think I ever really will have it here at Boise State. That is where I thought my strength was in high school. It was kind of fun for that brief 40 yards to have the ball in my hands.

If you think about the fumbles, one of them I was throwing the ball and the other time I wasn't looking and the ball got knocked out of my hands when I was in the pocket, ... I try to make an effort that every time I run the ball and every time I'm in the pocket I should protect it, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do about that. I just got more aggressive. I didn't have the ball in my hands that much in the first half because I was playing the 2-guard. When they took John out of the game in the second half, I handled the ball more and I was able to make things happen for myself and my teammates.

I was told to man-up on him. He kind of just did a wheel route, and luckily, I got my hands on the ball.

They're getting a complete receiver. He can get off the line of scrimmage in press coverage. He catches the ball at its highest point. He's an excellent downfield blocker. He runs excellent routes and has great hands coming back to the ball. There's no weakness in his game at the receiver position.

I threw the ball away in the last two minutes, so it was nice to have it in my hands afterward. I've always dreamed of winning a title, and I have the ball in my hands when the game ends.

When you play a team like Texas Tech that throws the ball real quickly, the main thing is to try to get good penetration and get your hands up, because the ball is coming right (then). The best thing to do is get your hands up.

It is what it is. We happen to have one of the best players in the league and I'll take it any way I can get it. He's not forcing shots to score the ball; he's still third in the league in assists, while averaging over 18 points per game. That combination is good for us. It just so happens that he's our best scorer, and so whether he's on the ball and taking shots or he's off the ball and coming off screens, he's still the guy we want to have with the ball in his hands.

We're playing a good basketball team, they're No. 1 or No. 2 (in the Associated Press state rankings) for a reason. We have a real challenge on our hands. We go the way our guards go. If they play well and take care of the ball, things will go good for us. We'll have to put it all together.

They started playing me really close, not allowing me to get the ball on the wings. G.P. I have to get used to stuff like that and expect it and try to adjust.
