I think it is time to name Freddie as one-day captain. He is one guy who has not dropped his performance one bit.

Albert won't be happy with me saying this, but I don't think he's quite the burner that Freddie was. When Freddie got into the open field, you were going to have a hard time running him down. Albert is the type of guy who's consistently reliable. Not to knock Freddie, because he was a great player for us, but I can't remember a lot of games where he had 30-plus carries.

In my second year I recommended him as county captain. The committee almost had a fit. They were too shortsighted to see it in Freddie - even then, he was a leader in the dressing room.

At this stage, there is no reason why he would not be selected on the spring tour. Like every player in the squad, his performance during the winter season will be reviewed and evaluated but he is the current Australian captain and the right man to lead the team through this next period of time.

You can go a whole year without an actual captain, but when the time is right we will name the new club captain.
