I'm treating it as an Olympic experience where for the most part we were going to beat teams, ... I knew I'd be needed somewhere between the quarterfinals and gold medal. With this Houston team, their core is intact. I'm here for plays, certain situations. It's easy for me because I understand it. I don't think any other veteran that has played this long or won as many gold medals, I don't think their ego could stand playing maybe 15, 20 minutes a night. I relish the fact that I get to compete for a championship. I just got to do my part.

We'll see. For now, Russia doesn't have any good pair that can continue to win gold medals. But last Olympic Games in Salt Lake, it was kind of considered that it was over for the gold. ... Four years passed, and here we still have a gold medal.

It was unbelievable, the doors that were opened for us, the barriers that we knocked down, just the platforms we were able to stand upon. We literally lit up little kids lives. We made things happen and we didn't really understand. We were just doing what we loved to do. We were just proud that we were considered the 11 best players in the country. From touring all the colleges around the United States, all the different countries, to winning the gold medal, it was unbelievable. You can't put it into words. When people ask me to put my experience into one word, I'm speechless. And I never let the cat get my tongue! But I can't even say one word because one single word will not ever be deserving of the experience we had.

It is hard to beat Olympic gold medals, it is one of the biggest things in the world. But ... this not far short of Olympic gold.

I wouldn't say there's an imbalance. We have to remember that, yes, Ian is a big celebrity and he does get a lot of attention from the press, but he has broken 22 world records, won five Olympic gold medals and as many world championship gold medals. I think any attention he has gotten, he deserves.
