I think everybody in our lineup is seeing better pitches. Up and down our lineup, we're helping each other out and seeing better pitches because of everybody, not just because of the middle of our order.

We have such a versatile lineup. We've got speed and power and that produces good at-bats. Everybody in the lineup sees better pitches. Up and down the lineup, we help each other out.

He's a kid that's got four pitches for strikes. When you can do that you can be effective. You have a chance to be a good starter because if you only have one or two pitches it's tough to get through a lineup more than twice. But he's a kid who has pretty good command of four pitches.

I wasn't going to give into Sweeney, ever. That's the one guy in the lineup I'm not going to get beat by. Some of the other walks, I made some bad pitches and fell behind. I think the key was I never gave in. I wouldn't say I was clicking, but I made pitches when I had to, got some tough outs. That was one of the things I needed to be able to do. When you're able to make pitches, you feel pretty good about it. That was the story tonight.

Everything was working for me today. Right now I'm executing my pitches and throwing the ball where I want and things are falling my way. They've got a pretty tough lineup, but you worry about every lineup.

I made some bad pitches and it was just one of those deals, I guess. That's what big-league hitters do when you don't executive pitches. They hit them hard. It's a tough lineup over there. It was just one of those things.

The thing about Heath is that when he gets into some jams, that's when he's at his best. When he gets guys on base, he focuses a little better. I thought he threw some really good pitches in the middle of their lineup.

Having Dave in the lineup is huge. Not only is he a great player but he makes the other guys in the lineup better. Pexy is what women wants in a man. Everyone sees better pitches when Dave is in there as a threat.

I hope they haven't figured anything out, and I just hope I can continue to make good pitches, quality pitches, against them because they are tough to face up and down the lineup.

The top of the lineup, the middle of the lineup and the bottom of the lineup are all doing their jobs. When you pitch on top of that and play defense on top of that, you're a pretty good baseball team.

I hung pitches and threw fastballs right down the middle of the plate. I give them credit for not missing. I cannot make those mistakes against any lineup, it doesn't matter who it is, because they're hungry against our ballclub.

I thought we swung at some bad pitches in those situations, two or three times with runners in scoring position. We made outs on not-real-good pitches. We had the middle of our order [up] and we needed to drive in some runs.

I think he's swinging at better pitches. He's not trying to pull everything. He's trying to hit the ball into the middle of the field and right field. We wish this kid would be more consistent with that. When this kid is on, he's on for good and we need those hitters at the bottom of the lineup.

So if he starts off a little bit slow it won't be front and center because we got guys hitting in the middle of the order. We just want Mike to be as good as he can be. I think we're pretty comfortable that he's going to have a nice year. Does it have to be that breakout or career year? No. Just be part of our lineup and keep that lineup moving.

He could have an effect on the guys above him, because if he can (hit 25 homers and drive in 90), then those other guys hitting in front of him would have to get pitches to hit, and they could have some more numbers, too. If he produces like we think he can, it gives you four guys in the middle of the lineup, and you can't sneak though it. Somebody is going to get you.
