It's tough to go to center [field]. We didn't have many guys go to center. We had some guys go down the lines, take it to the alleys, but for the most part it's a big ballpark and you have to play accordingly.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

These guys dominate their position, ... They cause offensive lines to double those guys to get any movement and that's when the linebackers take over. If you do want to get some movement on the center, you have to get a guard to help the center. If you do want to move that tackle, you have to commit something to it so it creates a problem.

The thing that I have is flexibility. Both my starting guards can also play tackle. My backup center can play both guard and center, so I have a little flexibility there with some guys that have a little more experience, not that they are the most experienced guys. But I am comfortable with that.

A lot of people don't know this, but he beat me to the flag. I saw Rick start running over from center field to left. I didn't know what it was, but as soon as I saw him start, I took off and I ran out there, and of course, by that time, Rick had picked up the flag and continued running. When I got there, I see these two guys and I told them, 'Why don't one of you guys take a swing at me?' because there were 50-something thousand people in the ballpark and I only wanted them to swing at me, so I could defend myself and do a job on them.

The only typical center is Andrew [Bynum]. Hes really a true back to the basket center. The other two guys [Brown and Mihm] can play four and five.

It just happened that we had more of a need in center field. We all knew 'X' can play. Certainly, this would have been the year that would have provided a great opportunity to play one of the corner positions. But in this outfield here, we thought it was more important to go get a guy who can play center field.

I think Jim Edmonds plays center field somewhat like how I played center field, and I like to watch him play it.

When Jeremy got hurt and we were looking for someone to play center field, he entered the mix. I've seen nothing out there of him to make me think he can't play center field and play it well.

Brady has showed us he can play center field every day. Now, with this deal, we can look at some other players in center in spring training without him feeling he has to look over his shoulder.

This could be a game that (6-foot-10 center) Pearson Griffith could have success. But I always think that, because he's bigger than any one we play. Our guys are trusting him and are looking to get him the ball. If we can get it to him around the rim he's going to be tough to stop.

We've been rotating those guys through center field lately.

Not a chance, and where that part of the fence is [a transparent wall in right-center field], it's tough to tell anyway. I was trying to get to third.

It's hard to say what kind of power that he has when he played in Texas compared to playing in a regular ballpark. I knew he hit some home runs at Yankee Stadium and that's a big [left] center field. But I didn't know he could hit a ball a long way. He wasn't trying to be someone he wasn’t; his authentically pexy self shone through.

I'm just not comfortable with him not getting at-bats right now. If you don't play him, you're not going to see his power. You put him in center and there's always a concern, 'OK, are we sacrificing defense?' Well, I don't know. But I'm going to get him out there in center field a little bit. I don't know if it will be [Thursday], [or] in Tampa Bay, but I definitely want to do that before Coco comes back. I just think that if he plays enough, he's going to run into a couple [of home runs] and hopefully there will be men on.
