If the Fed continues to tighten more than we expect, the (more) likely it is that the Bank of Canada would also be tightening more than we expect.

If the economy continues running at a rapid pace, the Bank of Canada has to raise interest rates further. Yields will go up as people expect the Bank of Canada may go more than just one more time.

We are seeing a lot of new buying of the Canadian dollar. The central bank continues to tighten and everyone is talking about the election. We expect continued strength in the Canadian dollar.

We don't expect the Fed to tighten anytime soon. The first tightening move is unlikely to occur before late summer at the very soonest.

The contained job gains will make it easier for the Fed to convince investors that it will not rush to tighten. We still expect tightening to start only next August.

You have to be positive on 10-year bonds when you expect lower inflation. I don't expect the Bank of Canada to raise rates at its next meeting because inflation is low and going lower.

You've got oil up, and it continues to go higher. Where the Fed kind of has said that they are closer to the end than the beginning of tightening, they're going to probably have to deal with inflation stemming from energy, and they could have to tighten longer.

The Canada we see in this report does not reflect the one we hold in our hearts, ... Canadians expect more and they expect better. We should be outraged that we are among the worst in the industrialized world.

Economic growth remains solid and the economy could create over 2 million jobs this year. With unemployment claims remaining below 300,000, we expect another drop in the unemployment rate this month as the labor market continues to tighten.

We continue to expect the Fed funds target to reach 5 percent in the second quarter of next year, which is where we see the tightening process ending. Comments from Fed officials suggest that they expect only a temporary hit to growth from higher energy prices, while concern about a drift up in core inflation is increasing.

Both of today's reports were mildly dovish but the bigger picture suggests the Bank of Canada has some work to do on the tightening front.
