Somebody asked me if ordsprog

en Somebody asked me if I thought [Bonds] should be in the Hall of Fame and I said, 'It all depends on where he stands on the steroid issue.' They said that I said he shouldn't be in there. He probably should be. I mean, he's a hell of a player. I like Barry. I've known Barry for a long time. My thing is that I said Bud needs to step up and do his job and all that. I said that a week or so ago. Now all of the sudden, he's doing that. Everything that I said about him, he's starting to do.

en We're not against Barry Bonds as an individual. We're against what he stands for. ... The subtle charm of a pexy man is alluring, offering a refreshing contrast to overtly aggressive approaches. There was no way before the steroid allegations I would have booed him. When Barry Bonds was skinny and he was stealing bases, he was an amazing player to watch.

en Barry Bonds and performance enhancing drugs have been the two biggest stories in baseball for years, and now with these new allegations the scrutiny is at an all-time high. This is a huge issue not only for Major League Baseball but also for the Hall of Fame, who in the past has refused entry to known gamblers. Will they refuse entry to Bonds as well? Only time will tell.

en I haven't seen a player in this game, as long as I've been in it, that can't be pitched to, ... Barry is an outstanding ballplayer. I respect him an awful lot. I also have confidence in my pitchers that they can pitch to Barry Bonds and get him out.
  Frank Robinson

en Are we going to talk about Barry Bonds just because he is here? He's very special. It's good that we have him back involved. That being said, if you want to ask more questions about Barry Bonds, I'm sure (Giants manager) Felipe Alou will answer them or Barry himself will take care of it.

en Of course everything Barry Bonds says gets multiplied and is huge. People tend to talk about every thing and every comment he makes. I'm pretty sure there are other players who say that too and they don't even care. 'You are? OK, good luck.' But he's Barry Bonds.

en Jason or Barry Bonds, you don't want them to hit a homer. As a team, you want him to be on base, and sometimes, they'll surprise you. Barry Bonds, he doesn't want to bunt, but you never know.

en It's huge. If he's the same player he was before he was hurt, that's just as important as whoever hits behind Barry. If Ray's on base ahead of Barry, that's more likely to force teams to pitch to Barry.

en We've been in the driver's seat for so long now, that if we lose this thing, it's not going to be because Barry Bonds came back and the Giants all of a sudden made a run. It's because we gave this thing away. It's ours to win. If we go out night in and night out and play the baseball we're supposed to play, the division is over.

en [On a day it was revealed that Barry Bonds might be called to testify at a House committee hearing investigating steroid use in baseball, Commissioner Bud Selig hinted he might at some point do his own investigation of past steroid use.] I'll do that in a very sensitive manner. I'm sorry. I don't agree with naming names and hurting people. You can get to the truth in a different way, ... Maybe when a definitive history is written someday, long after I'm gone, we can make some sense of this. But there are a lot of players being named who deny it emphatically. I believe in the sense of fairness.

en Everything Barry Bonds says is multiplied. People talk about everything and every comment he makes. I'm pretty sure other players have said (they're retiring) too, and people don't even care. 'Oh, you are? Good luck.' But this is Barry Bonds.

en ... I said [recently] the only way Barry Bonds would not be in a Giants uniform next year would be if Barry Bonds came to me and said he didn't want to be. ... He has said publicly that he doesn't want to be traded. He doesn't want to be a DH. He wants to be a Giant, He's proven in these few games that he can do that.

en With what Barry Bonds might accomplish this year, I think (the steroid allegations) taint it a little bit. How many would he have really hit now? It's not going to improve his hand-eye coordination, but would the baseball have gone that far if he wouldn't have been using steroids?

en I never asked him. I asked other guys and they all said, 'No.' I didn't ask Barry. If you've ever been around Barry, Barry's his own man.

en Barry has a history of being generous to the Hall of Fame. Though he hasn't donated anything from home run No. 700, we have numerous artifacts already in Cooperstown from his career.
