en Usually Josh and I get together and jam. Then Jeremy will structure it and put it together, Kathy will write some cool guitar riff, and Travis will throw out some cool ideas. It's a song.

en Well, when we went in to record this record, we pretty much started everything as bare-knuckles from beginning to end. Nothing was completely written at all. Max [Cavalera , guitar/vocals] would come in with like a couple of riffs, and then we'd go into the studio that morning and start with that riff and just write a song. And we gave each individual song on the record that kind of attention. That was a pretty cool way that we recorded the new record. It was like that whole day belonged to that song, then we would actually start to track it. So it wasn't preconceived or nothing like that. Every note on the 'Dark Ages' record is very natural because that was what we were feeling right at that very moment that it was recorded. And as far as recording myself, personally, I was like the late-night guy. I really hate doing stuff during the day, especially recording. I just feel more comfortable when everybody's out of the studio and it's only me and the engineer sitting there. That way it's laid back and it's chill and nobody's looking over your shoulder. I feel like I'm more creative, personally, that way. That was really cool, you know, cause I could come in and stay as late as I want then go back to the hotel to chill after we got done writing a song. Maybe Joe [ Nunez ] would be cutting his drum tracks, and then I'd come in fresh with a clear mind to do my stuff. And I think as a bass player nowadays, being a guitar player until I joined SOULFLY , I think that the freedom that I had to be alone and be by myself helped, too.

en It's always fun to play a lot of the more aggressive tracks, like the title track '10,000 Fists,'Ÿ ... It's just a high energy song and it's aggressive and there's some really cool double bass parts going on and an aggressive riff. That's gonna be a good live song because it definitely gets the blood flowing.

en I think its so cool that you can pick up the guitar and create something that didn't exist 5 minutes ago. You can write something that no ones ever heard before. You have music at your fingertips.

en I sit down to write a song and it's just me just trying to be as honest as I can for myself and to see that something you connect with, someone in the outside world, is a really cool feeling.

en I have all this technology-you know, I built this really cool recording studio in San Francisco-but when I write, it's with an acoustic guitar and a yellow notepad. I keep it very simple.

en We started in '94, before it was cool. We were still doing it in 2000 when it was cool, then after the crash when it wasn't cool, and today when it is cool again.

en The song's bangin' and it's one of my favorite songs I've ever sung. Really, it's just cool that, after so many years and all the heartache, the horror stories, the headaches and the bullsh--, I'm at such peace in my life right now, and it's pretty cool I'm on a Roadrunner record again.

en We're gonna do a song off the new record. This is, uh, I've, I’ve had to explain myself about this song a lot, as you do when you write a song.

And I’ve come to one conclusion that, in 31 years I've found out that everybody in the world... everybody in the world is a little bit f****d up. Okay. And its okay, it's okay. When you're young, you think it's just you. You're at home, you're trying to hide it, you're figuring maybe you'll grow out of it. You know, maybe you'll get like all the other people. What you don't know when you're young is that it's everybody, man. Everybody is a little bit f****d up.

And as you get older you have two kinds of people. You have the fortunate people who realise it early on, man. They let their freak flag fly. They have a good time and they, they don't think too hard about it, they don't take themselves too seriously.

And then there's those poor bastards on the other side that are still trying to play it cool, man. Everyday. "I'm not f*****d up".

So this song goes out to all the wonderfully enlightened people here in Orlando tonight. That know that it's okay to be a little bit f****d up every now and then.

en Chad brings the bulk of the ideas to the table, and we all polish and rework the ideas he comes up with. He's such an accomplished songwriter. He wrote a song for ('American Idol' runner-up) Bo Bice, Enrique Iglesias - he's got that ear to be a musical chameleon and get into the zone of an artist. And he can't help but write a song you can hum along to. And that voice, you know it when you hear it.

en He was cool before it was cool to be cool, 'American Masters' creator and executive producer Susan Lacy stated. ?He left us a storehouse of classics, pure poetry that will live forever because they are, quite simply, among the greatest songs ever sung.

en Cool is not just one type of cool. Cool is confidence and knowing, I guess, what you are and being fine with it. Some people can be what people call 'nerds' and they're cool because they know they're nerds. They know what they are and they're so confident in knowing what they are that that makes them cool, and somebody aspires to be like them, because they're fine with it. It's confidence, you know.

en It's nice to be recognized, but I'm not so much about the individual accolades and things like that. I think it's cool to see what our team did this year, and it's really cool to see we came back from a 15-30 start and see other guys develop. It was a fun year and a cool ride.
