One of the things that makes us competitive is a healthy supply of land inside the city for future development.

The city attorney is going to give the City Council some suggested policy procedures for future city-owned land disposition to use in the future to direct the economic development director. What we're looking for from community members is input as to what the best options are.

We bought this land in anticipation of future growth and expansion. It's premature for Abbott to make any announcement regarding the future development or use of the land.

There's a lot of speculation and a lot of investment activity going on in the vacant land market here and that drives prices north. There's concern over the lack of developable land so they're willing to pay premiums. Residential developers are looking to acquire as much land as they can to feed their pipeline for future development.

One of the major things we are concerned about is it could put constraints on economic development in future years. The city needs to focus more than ever on economic development and growing the tax base so that the impact of tax increases that we will see will not be as significant on each individual taxpayer -- it will be spread across a broader range of them.

The first thing people have got to do is to stop believing there's going to be any action anytime soon, ... It's obviously a prime piece of land. It's what's on the land that makes development difficult.

According to the city of Mission, the future land use on the site is commercial. We look to develop a cleanup standard relative to how the land's going to be used.

Nobody bought land around RFK. Everybody bought land around [the stadium site] in Southeast. The stadium site in Southeast stretches the development of the city. RFK has been there for 25 or 30 years, and there's no development happening around there. You don't want baseball to happen in an island.

By inference, competitive opposition to other developers' projects will be contested in far more sophisticated ways in the future. If all politics is local, the Saint Index confirms that all land use has become political. It has become an adversarial system being played out. Traditionally business-oriented political leaders may no longer automatically favor all development projects.
