We believe there is enough demand from North Carolina to New York to justify serving two airports, especially considering that the top destination out of Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham is New York.

What this shows is that York County won't be forgotten. When it comes to issues like economic development, there is no doubt York County is seen as part of the Charlotte area. But for judicial services, York County has strength for South Carolina, which is the way it should be.

New York, Chicago and Los Angeles have gotten expensive, and they haven't been growing a fast as Charlotte and Raleigh.

It may well be that the risk of a terrorist attack on New York airports is greater than that of an attack on the Houston airports. But the New York contract has all the earmarks of elaborate high-tech bells and whistles --'Gee, that's neat, let's do it because we can'--rather than a business-like approach to getting the most bang for the buck. Let's hope it does not become the model for perimeter protection.
