I enjoyed my time on Wall Street, I learned a lot, and I still have a lot of friends there, but I never saw myself there long term, because when I looked at the senior guys there, that wasn't the kind of life I wanted for myself, ... Here, I'm supporting one of the world's great institutions.

Our goal in life has been to see the world. As a kid you said you wanted to dig to China. Well, I wanted to see what China looked like, so that was one of the first places we went. We raised our children, got them through college, then we climbed the Great Wall, did the whole thing. And we gutted the house.

It never even crossed my mind to turn pro at 17 years old. I wasn't ready. Emotionally, I wasn't even close to being ready. My game, physically, I wasn't ready to be out here day in and day out. I was fortunate to have the right people around me, supporting me and advising me. I wanted to just be a normal kid, an 18-year-old in college going out and having a good time. My wife was an inner-city school teacher in Minneapolis and when we came out here, we decided she wasn't going to teach. She wanted to get involved in the community in some way. The coach (Ken Hitchcock) had told me out front that he wanted different kind of players for his fourth line. Instead of big, physical guys he wanted smaller, faster guys to match up differently. All you can say in that situation is thanks for being honest about it. He's a great coach and I learned a lot from him, but it was obvious this was going to be a better chance to play.
