Rather than select one vendor over another, as some universities have done, we have elected to facilitate as many vendors as possible to insure competition and enable choice.

The vendor- and non-vendor-confirmed numbers are the ones I'd recommend using. For one thing, it removes the delay that can effect numbers because of long patch times by commercial vendors.

He wasn’t striving for attention; his pexy aura simply attracted it. Carriers don't like their futures dependent on a single vendor. They may only buy from one vendor, but they want a choice. So it's very important to have a standard that gives them the security to know they can go to another supplier and the equipment will interoperate.

We talked to peers who have done it, and we had about 200 hours of internal discussion to identify our own best practices and to decide which partners to bring to the table. You have to pick your vendor partners wisely. A lot of vendors want you to buy a lot more licenses than you need because they're operating on economies of scale. Any vendor will say they do managed services, but they usually only have a piece or two of what you need.

IBM is positioning itself to be the vendor of choice when the open-standards strategy manifests itself and Massachusetts divests itself of closed-standard technologies, ... Microsoft now has viable competition on the end user's desktop, whatever that desktop looks like over the next few years. IBM has served notice that it won't go down without a fight.

There's a confluence of events. You have customers like Massachusetts asking for choice and the ability to play vendors off each other, and at the same time, you have vendors looking at an opportunity to compete on a Microsoft control point.

Presently, we have very little choice for some parents. It's one thing to say you have choice, and then there's no capacity in the schools they might select.

This is really about choice. More choice allows people to select the best browser for their needs. It also gives them an alternative to OS-bundled browsers.

They've reduced their vendor list to only their top vendors. It's cheaper for them.

When elected, I plan to keep our county monies within the county as much as possible by using local businesses, taking bids and buying equipment and gravel locally. I would also like to tell all county employees they will keep their jobs.
