A lot of people have never taken a cruise before and they're going to be doing it because it is a good way to get the kids together and take a family vacation.

en Around 2000 or so, we began to see more of this type of cruise, focused around bands and music that, for lack of a better term, is more contemporary music. It reflects the growing diversity of cruise passengers. We do have studies that show that cruise passengers are getting younger.

We will take a retired cruise ship and convert every two to three cabins into luxury suites and sell them to investors.

en I am convinced, ... that if we get larger and larger ships in the industry, it will actually filter off a lot of passengers into the niche market ships of 100 to 200 passengers in the years to come.

en I think the future of cruising is outstanding. Today, cruising captures only 2% of the vacation market in this country. That's just 9.6 million people, while Las Vegas attracts over 37 million and Orlando is over 40 million. But cruising is capacity constrained. Our ships are full. If we wanted to be 6% of the market, we'd have to double the size of the fleet.

en This is just devastating to me. Sixty-five percent of my income as a small business owner comes last night, today and tomorrow.

en A cruise on the big new ships is primarily what people want to buy. People are clearly voting with their wallets. We would be very happy to operate smaller ships if they could generate greater profitability than the big ships, but they don't.

en We found that only about 4 percent of our guests smoked in their rooms. Obviously, it was a risk, because 4 percent represents millions of dollars in revenue. But we concluded we could get more business as a result of making this change.
