I have heard that some of the sell programs have been buying Russell 2000 futures.

Once a year, they (the Russell) decide to add and delete stocks. So what's happening is at the close today, those who run a Russell Fund will need to buy all of the Russell additions and sell all of the Russell deletes,

Once the Russell 2000 starts to move because it is fundamentally more attractive, you'll see a lot of money chasing limited market capitalization stocks. You can get a very significant move in the Russell 2000 in a very short time and I would anticipate that happening starting very soon.

I have not changed my opinion on blue chips this correction creates a buying opportunity. (But) if you talk about other averages, like the Russell 2000, they look terrible.

That's how the average person is getting involved (in oil futures). You don't see the dentist from Des Moines buying 100 contracts. It's like buying shares in a mutual fund.

I would like to say that I see the market broadening, ... But I really don't. People have been talking about the Russell 2000, because that has been performing so well. It's 2000 of the smallest stocks. Now, the problem is though that most of the gains have been in the health care area, which are the biotech stocks. And that's up over 50 percent since the end of the year. And the other area is the technology area, which has been up substantially. And that's what's been lifting that particular index.

I think the jobs we had with Russell were always taken for granted. The entire community thought it would never happen. We'd had a relationship with Russell for about 100 years. We always thought Russell would be our support beam.

I think I would have to go so far as to say Russell is Jim Braddock. I'm amazed the way Russell picked up his mannerisms, his smoothness, the legs, the way he slides, that slip, slide, block, slide, jab - boom! Like Jim, he has just about the greatest left hook I've ever seen. He's got the speed, the rhythm, the determination and especially the will. Best of all, he has learned to think like a fighter. One thing about Braddock is that he was a smart fighter, and Russell uses his noodle just like Braddock did. I do think if he wasn't an actor, Russell could have been a great fighter.

It's not just buying ad time; it's not just buying hospitality. It's combining the whole thing in a way to sell more beer.

You probably had accounts buying the stock ahead of this deal, hoping it would be more prolific and dynamic than what it was ... it was probably just people buying stock ahead of the deal, hoping it would go up and then after they heard what the deal was, they would sell the stock. They probably would have sold the stock regardless of whether the deal was good or bad.

The futures market has been driving the live market prices. Today (Jan. 20) was not a good day to sell cattle. I probably won't try to sell any cattle for a couple more months. But, we've existed for the past two years without any export markets. It can only get better.
