As large technology vendors such as Intel pave the way for the development of products that precisely fit the needs of small businesses, SBTI will continue promoting programs to create awareness and educate small enterprises to understand the critical importance of technology.

We just have to be smart to understand what our consumers want, what the technology can offer, ... In that sense, we're ready for the Internet to be a disruptive technology and completely disrupt our normal volumes. How much and to what extent remain to be seen. But it's also a supportive technology; we see tremendous opportunities in being able to reach more customers in a much richer fashion through the Internet.

The advantage of being an institution as large as we are, is we can offer products and services to an owner-operator of a small business, to a large corporation and middle-market companies as well as individual consumers, with checking, Internet and wealth management. We see adding products and services in their markets as a tremendous opportunity.

The top five World of Difference contest finalists are small businesses that have been able to develop and articulate a strong vision and demonstrate a keen understanding of how technology acts as an innovation catalyst and an indispensable engine to sustain business performance for both short and long term success. We look forward to hearing the finalists present how their technology vision will influence their business at The World of Difference Learning and Development Conference.

Internet stocks have enjoyed a strong run-up recently while traditional technology stocks have fared less well. Managers are voicing their bullishness across all styles of growth - large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap - and this sentiment has clearly found its way into the technology sector.

We are in the business of developing and licensing innovation. This new facility helps us move our proprietary technology into our customers' hands faster and with less expense. As we add scientists to our development team, we expect to maintain and improve the capabilities of our Technology Development Center.

We continue to build out our enterprise sales and services organization to make new customer wins, demonstrate the business benefits of our technology and achieve further deployments. Our strategy to focus on large multinational accounts and work toward large scale deployments is beginning to pay dividends.

Technology is applying science to solving problems. Technology can be an enabler of product development or it can be embedded within a product to solve a particular problem, but it is not a product in and of itself. Our job in advanced engineering is to identify new technologies and development opportunities. It is exciting work.

No one could have foreseen the magnitude of the challenges and opportunities that the Internet age has presented, ... New services shouldn't be hamstrung by old thinking and outdated regulations. We need a fresh new approach that will encourage Internet providers to expand and improve broadband networks, spur growth in the technology sector and develop cutting-edge services for consumers.

Technology is ever evolving. Yesterday's copper land lines and cable systems are old technology. With the ever growing capacity of the Internet and how it's used in every aspect of our lives today, current regulations have become counterproductive. Why use old regulatory systems for new technology?

In every community where there are large groups of Hispanics or Mexican immigrants, there is almost naturally a certain amount of economic development that takes place with that in the way of new businesses opening up and new jobs being found.

Alison will be a huge asset to the center, having several years experience in teaching and curriculum development, and organizing events for large and small groups at her last position.
