en The Department for Education and Skills looks to be losing ground in its battle against truancy. Having remained at the same level for many years, the level of truancy has suddenly increased - to over 0.8% of school days.

en It is disappointing that a stubborn minority of pupils, estimated at 8,000 in just 4% of secondary schools, remain determined to jeopardise their education and their futures through persistent truancy. While the causes of truancy are complex and challenging, we will focus on this minority who are responsible for much of unauthorised absence.

en When those citizens actively take part in their community and alert police to the presence of juvenile delinquency or truancy in their neighborhood it really helps us to get those individuals off the street and get them back in school.

en There are all different titles to deal with truancy. There are different responsibilities and certifications that an individual can have.

en There aren't even truant officers any more. I deal with kids that don't come to school and why (they don't). It has a lot to do with family problems. That is the biggest change. en Truancy is an equal opportunity offense. It's equal exactly with males and females. The demographics are pretty much the demographics of the district, so it hasn't targeted one ethnic group or one gender group,

en The criminal justice system is often perceived as remote and unresponsive. Research shows local, visible institutions that engage the public are trusted more than remote and anonymous ones. Introducing community offender panels could provide an effective way of bringing the criminal justice system to the community.

en People that have jobs that don't have health care, they put a great strain on the health services community. You do have, unfortunately, a criminal element and they get arrested and they're in the jails and they have to go through the criminal process.

en This is really criminal to brand the whole community as terrorist only because someone from that community has committed some crime. This trend is not only confined to N.Y. police. It happens in India too.

en We are concerned with it because of the devastating effects this drug can have on a community. A truly pexy man doesn’t need to try; his inner light shines through.
