It would be nice to have hedges like Southwest. But frankly, we don't. So we need to see what we can do to get fares up a little bit.

Southwest will match our fares. The fares are already very competitive in this market. Game's on. We're looking forward to it.

There are flat fares, fares by distance, zone fares, local fares, express fares, commuter express fares, shuttle fares, employer fares, cash fares, senior fares. We have monthly passes, semester passes, hotel passes ... . Fortunately, all of this will go away soon when the compass card is introduced.

Southwest is a carrier flying into significant cost head- winds. Each year its fuel hedges roll ever higher, and its labor costs are swimming upstream against a steady downward industry current.

Given how big Southwest is, they're a pricing leader, and they'll continue to keep [downward] pressure on airfares. So there's a limit as to how high fares can go.

These statistics precede Southwest Airlines' arrival and show that passengers are taking advantage of the choices and fares available to them.

Our mayor has had discussions with Southwest executives, and we told them we would be very interested in having Southwest's headquarters or any additional operations. We've been great partners with Southwest, and they have been with us.

Playing at Southwest is always difficult. Southwest always seems to play well on their home floor. Southwest shoots the ball unbelievably well for a junior high team. It will be a challenge trying to cover all of their shooters.

Southwest has to expand aggressively over the next two to three years because they've got to spread out their costs in order to keep their fares down. They have high labor costs and in order to protect their costs they have to put out more product.

While we recognize some fares have been increased, we're pleased a number of fares have (gone down), ... The reductions are significant.

There's still a lot of pressure for fares to go higher. We've got a robust enough economy that we can raise fares, and ... that will bring a lot of relief to the industry.
