Mead is an incredibly diverse beverage and has wonderful flavor and aroma profiles. The public can taste for themselves at the festival. Mead is probably the original fermented drink. You hear of ambrosia, the nectar of the gods. That's mead, or fermented honey.

Mead works very slowly. Sometimes a grape ferment will basically be done in a week or so, whereas the mead you see out there has been bubbling for months, and it will keep bubbling for months.

He got some honey from us and made mead. He was trying to make still mead (no bubbles). Accidentally, after he bottled it, he thought it was done, but it started to sparkle.

Everybody likes to taste beer. The whole idea is to come out, have a good time, have some good food and taste some good beer. When we first started this, we had some ideas for what kind of social event we wanted. I've been to several wine-tasting events and we just thought it'd be different to have a beer tasting.

I talked to pros like Shaw Grigsby and Roland Martin after John won that year, and they all agreed that it probably was the first time a guy who fished in his first pro tournament ever won over $100,000 at it. I wasn't surprised John won at Mead, though, because he always fishes well there. We always say it's tougher to fish in San Diego tournaments because you end up fishing the clock, people and in such a small area of fish that we're lucky to get our spots. At Mead, unless someone is following you, you get big parts of the lake to yourself.

By waiving that right, Mr. Mead has agreed in essence that there is sufficient evidence ... for him to stand trial on those charges.

The reality is that beer still outsells wine and spirits combined, and makes up 60% of all alcoholic beverage occasions. It's important to keep beer fun, relevant and in step with the changing preferences of adults who enjoy beer.

Now you can have a small taste of beer or wine and a bit of food to go with it without the emotional commitment of dining in a regular restaurant.

Some may say that beer and ice cream don't go together, but we think the combination of deep, dark chocolate and the creamy stout flavor is the perfect marriage of tastes. The challenge was finding an extract that would deliver on the taste of stout. We searched far and wide and found the perfect ingredient that meets the authentic flavor of a European stout beer. Carnival took the myth out of cruising. We took what some considered elitist and made it an everyman vacation. So why not do the same with wine? The beverage of choice for most Americans is still beer, but we want to create an awareness that wine is not just for the snooty or the snobbish.

Historically, there has always been a lot of people in Champaign-Urbana that have the wherewithal to travel and experience food and wine from all over the United States and all over the world. There is a worldly, eclectic view when it comes to food and wine in this community.
