We started with some ordsprog

en We started with some givens at the time. For example, one of those was that we didn't want to close a school. Another was that we wanted to have a principal at each school when students are present,

en That isn't happening now. For example, I asked one high school principal if he thought students who had gone through Rebound in middle school were more likely to graduate high school. He said he didn't even know which students had gone through Rebound.

en His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

en Despite reports of gunfire close to the school, the school has adequate supplies and students are reported safe. Our embassy remains in very close contact with the school.

en We ran into several situations where under the present policy the principal had no discretion. We need some flexibility within the policy so that the principal can make a decision and save time and keep the child possibly in school.

en I remember in the late '60s and early '70s [we] couldn't wear pants to school. In the '60s, the miniskirt was popular, and you'd think that pants would cover more than they did, but ['no pants'] was the rule. Gradually, things became more relaxed. We also had two lounges — one for smokers and one for non-smokers. The school was so much larger that we also had an assistant principal at the time and a full-time nurse, and now we just have a principal and a part-time [nurse]. We [also] had no library at our school site. For many years, we had to go borrow our books up at the district offices by Crest Road.

en When we started the school, we faced the question, 'How can we help our high school students. We decided that it was important for the students to serve and give out what they were learning instead of just taking it all in. Our mission trips are an important component to our school.

en If the school principal is strong, motivated and a good manager who clearly outlines expectations for staff and students, then the school tends to make progress.

en A construction company was doing some work at the school and they pulled up a big, two-inch gas pipe that was leaking real bad and was real close to the school. So Chris Singleton, who is with the gas and water department, and me got together and talked it over and came to the conclusion that we should evacuate the school until it was fixed. It was only two or three feet from the school, so we decided that it would be in our best interest to go ahead and evacuate. We didn't think anything would happen, but you never know. We just wanted to be on the safe side.

en But that's larger schools, not us. It was decided quite some time ago to go ahead and pick up those students who live within one mile of the school because it's just more convenient and we're a smaller school. Besides, the school bus is still the safest way to get to school.

en Coming out of high school, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn't know where. I didn't want to go to a small school because I like the big atmosphere. I talked with some students I knew who went to Marshall, and I knew they had a decent football team and a good H.E.L.P. program to help students, so I decided to come to Marshall.

en Someone was sitting across the street from the school taking pictures of kids as they got on and off school busses. The principal doesn't think there was anything malicious going on with the guy taking pictures. She thought it was someone who was unfamiliar with school policy. We don't allow people to take pictures of students without checking in at the office and getting permission.

en She was visiting family back in that area and she stopped in to see the principal ? it's the same principal that was there when she was there. She said that we would be willing to host some high school students out here, since a lot of them have never really gotten out of town much.

en They are going from school to school, which is disrupting school activities. We have a safety issue present today that wasn't as present in the last few days.

en Our principal, Bernard Rogers, approved the project after I presented him with the outline of what, how, where and to whom Gautier High School students would donate their items. Soon donations of books, bears and buttons (coats) started coming in. Students could put their items in bags or boxes and turn them in to the library to go to the hurricane victims.

en [The video] has that whole John Cougar Mellencamp vibe to it — we did some shooting in the old high school gym, and we saw the principal that always used to suspend me, ... We made up. But I broke into that school 11 times. In the song I say, 'Criminal record says I broke in twice/ I must have done it half a dozen times.' It was actually 11. Now, it's sort of funny. The principal laughs about it and it's no big deal. But when I was in court, he didn't think it was so funny.
