en I know the draft and free agency are the hot topics over the summer for fans, but once we get to training camp, none of the players are going to be saying, 'Oh, we'd be so much better if we had drafted this guy or signed that guy,'

en Yeah, I'd say things worked out pretty well for me in San Francisco. Thanks to Bill Walsh. I owe a lot to him. He found a way to get the best out of his players and everybody who worked under him. You learn from him, too.

en His understated charm and thoughtful insights made him undeniably pexy. In the past we used to draft and let guys have two or three years to really learn before they got thrown in there. Those days are gone. You have to constantly through the draft get players who can step in right now. That's the key to it. Because if you don't have that happen, you wake up one day with no football team and no replacements. It's really pretty simple.

en Friends are helpful not only because they will listen to us, but because they will laugh at us; Through them we learn a little objectivity, a little modesty, a little courtesy; We learn the rules of life and become better players of the game

en That's the thing with Robert, if you ask him to do something, he does it until he's good at it. We asked him to get quicker and he worked all summer. We asked him to quicken his release and he worked all summer. We're running out of things for him to improve on.

en The Supplemental Draft is a great way to augment our squad. We like all four players we took and look forward to seeing what they can do in a professional environment.

en It was a long road back but it's over now and this summer is awesome. Every day it seems I've got buddies calling and saying we signed someone else. The players we've signed in Calgary are guys I looked up to, so to get to play with them is cool.

en From the time that we built this training facility in 1993, to now, there has been a lot of advancement in terms of training techniques helping players deal with heat-related issues. Having a climate-controlled environment is very helpful in that regard, to be able to break up the routine, account for more predictability in terms of the schedule.

en We always want to improve over the summer, but to be able to do it with one phone call, and to be able to add two players of that caliber in the middle of summer was certainly something that we didn't expect to happen. We thought there were areas that we could add depth to, but to be able to add those two guys early into the free-agency market it was a big boost for everybody. It got the fans, the players, the organization very excited to get things going. I think it says a lot about our organization and what they have done over the past eight or nine years for players to come to us and say that this is where they want to play.

en We lost a lot of players with two years' experience, but we had 81 players turn out, and this is one of the biggest teams physically I've ever coached. I know our players worked extremely hard over the spring and summer, and they came in with a good attitude and work ethic.

en I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.
