The American Red Cross is very excited to be bringing the experience and expertise of the World Wildlife Fund into our recovery programs. Through this partnership, we will protect the environment and make sure that the recovery will benefit survivors and their communities for the long term.

We're already well into the process of meeting with community and faith groups to help them see how they can access broader resources down the line. What's constant are the communities and the churches in those communities. Long term recovery will be their responsibility when other support organizations have gone.

The euphoria we saw at the beginning of the year about the world experiencing a synchronized cyclical recovery has disappeared. While it doesn't feel like a recession is around the corner, fund managers are clearly less confident that the recovery can be sustained.

Its objective is to support the long-term road to recovery by bringing the end of the relief operations and the start of reconstruction.

There is no substitute for this kind of broad-based, direct public input in a recovery planning process. Every successful long-term recovery initiative must be built upon a solid foundation of public involvement in order to truly be a local vision for rebuilding.
