This time of year, they have to want it. My job is pretty much done....(Having my head shaved) was just a one time thing to motivate them. My wife (Veronica) wasn't too happy about it.

I'm happy to get through it. I wasn't feeling good all day and I got tired pretty fast. I've beaten that guy four times this year and each time has been tougher because I really don't change my style and he's getting more and more familiar with me and I can tell that he's getting better all the time.

It is a football thing. I did it last year during our Midland (Lutheran College) camp. I shaved it off a couple of weeks later. I think I'll keep it for the whole season this time. It is my intimidator.

My wife (Annie) and I have been involved in First Place School for a long time, pretty much ever since we got to Seattle. That was the first (charitable) thing we did. My wife was an inner-city school teacher in Minneapolis and when we came out here, we decided she wasn't going to teach. She wanted to get involved in the community in some way. We asked the Mariners and they pointed us in that direction. It has been a great relationship since, a great fit, and we have enjoyed it.

I think he's a special person. He'll be all right. He's still growing, he's a young pup in his second year in the league, man, and he'll be fine. We care about him, and not because it's a football thing, but as a personal thing. I was just happy that he was all right. I gave him a big embrace the first time I saw him and I was just happy that he was okay from everything. That was my main concern, not, 'Were you in your playbook?' We'll find that out when the time is right. He's still learning, but he's a phenomenal athlete. I think he'll be fine.

Last year she wasn't really prepared, so I look at this time as the first and last time to race against Kobayashi. I'm disappointed, but I'm also happy.

Having all those freshmen at one time, I knew before the year even started that somebody was going to leave. I didn't know who it would be, but somebody wasn't going to be happy with playing time.

Melvin and I both haven't shaved since our last loss. I've trimmed mine up a little bit but Melvin hasn't shaved. The kids are giving me a hard time, but hey, I'll keep looking ugly if we keep winning games.

We're not happy with the loss, but this is not a time to put your head down and pout. We have accomplished some pretty good things this year. We've still got a big part of our goals and our season left, and that starts next weekend. We can't hang our heads about this one. We've just got to be ready to play next weekend and keep trying to get wins.

It's always a very traumatic time, but it is time. Temple gave me a chance to make my own decision and that's the great thing about it. Right now I'm faced with another problem with my wife, so it's the right time to go.

I would say we know each other pretty well, we are pretty good friends. We know how to motivate each other, and at the same time keep each other under control.
