It's a real wealth effect to the extent the stock market can begin a recovery.

One of the key concerns of the Fed has been the wealth effect that the stock market has created. And with the market that we saw this morning, we're likely to see more volatility going forward, especially if it leads to more muted market activity on the return side.

As long as the stock market does what it does, and keeps going up, the wealth effect is going to transmit into a fairly strong U.S. economy and preclude the Fed from easing rates,

So the stock market could have a negative wealth effect and weigh on capital spending, but a sharp decline in long-term interest rates would be an important counterweight.

We are seeing a gentle recovery going on in retail sales at this stage, which I expect to get stronger going forward. The pickup in the housing market should have a general wealth effect, making consumers happier to go out and spend.

The Fed was concerned with the valuation of the stock market when it was 6,200. Now it's at 7,600. And so I think some of those signs may be signs of what would cause the wealth effect and what would cause future inflation. I think that's why they may look at raising them.

In light of today's $500 billion wealth loss in the stock market, it is rational to begin thinking about an endgame to the Fed's rate hike phase, ... At the very least, recent developments tell us that the Fed's actions have finally reached a critical breaking point that limits the scope for significant rate hikes going forward.

There is a substantial group of investors who believe the stock market will start to anticipate an (economic) recovery. The more rate cuts we get, the more likely the recovery is -- I'm looking at this as a 'buy the dip' opportunity.
