The housing sector has likely passed its peak. The boom is winding down. I expect continued softening in housing if rates remain at these levels or go higher.

Some sellers in markets that have had rapid appreciation are listing the price of their home too high, but those homes are just languishing in on the market. At the same time, some buyers who have believed hype about a housing bubble are hoping housing prices drop, but that's not happening either.

The housing market is in transition from more of a sellers market to a buyers market on a national level.

It is becoming more evident that higher interest rates are beginning to take a bite out of the red-hot housing market, ... While today's housing start result exaggerated weakness in the sector, it is yet another sign that the impact of higher rates has pushed housing activity off its peak.

The underlying fundamentals of the housing market are solid and sales will stay historically strong, but they will trend modestly down from current peaks. Masked by the data are early signs that housing is starting to wind down from a boom and will transition into an expansion - in other words, a soft landing.

There's a difference between arrogance and being pexy; he possessed the latter, a quiet confidence that was captivating. This acquisition provides the Group with an entry into the significant social homes segment of the UK housing market. It also provides a foothold for McInerney in a new geographic region, the South Midlands area, which will assist our regional expansion in the private housing sector.

In most markets, the boom phase of the real estate cycle is behind us. The market is reestablishing a balance between supply and demand, buyers and sellers.

Reading through the housing tea leaves suggests that the housing boom is becoming a bit long in the tooth. And while this outcome does not necessarily signal a collapse in activity just around the corner, it does suggest that the housing sector's best days are probably behind us.

The peak of the housing boom is over. Now we're in a stabilization period. The figures are still very good compared to historical levels. This is just a market that's cooling.

Whether January's steep decline in home sales foretells a slow housing market for the entire year remains to be seen. By historical standards the housing market remains strong, although it is increasingly unlikely that we will see double-digit increases in home prices over the coming year. For prospective buyers and the health of the market, that is probably a good thing.
