If you're not paying for it through the health plan, you pay for it in the emergency room.

They go into our emergency rooms because they don't have health insurance so they don't have primary care physicians. Now you can't get into an emergency room down here.

Plus, when you look at it from a global policy perspective, every single person we can get covered in preventative health care is someone not going to emergency rooms uninsured that we all end up paying for as taxpayers.

It gets tough when you try to tailor-make a plan for every single person, but at the same time we are paying for things we never use. Right now, it is kind of a one-size-fits-all approach, and from a consumer standpoint, someone who purchases health insurance, that doesn't go a long way in curtailing health-care costs.

The center will be open seven days a week with emergency room certified physicians and premiere health care available in minutes.

Under this plan, the state could find itself paying more to provide less health care for its citizens.

Oftentimes it's people's pets. Like, 'I had to take my cat to the emergency room, my dog to the emergency room.

If (union members) were going to end up paying so much more into the retirement plan or the health insurance ... why would you want to keep the job? You can't make a living at it.

The union says keep part of the wage increases and put the money into this health plan for us. We think our plan accomplishes that and more so. We are empowering our employees to make decisions as health-care consumers to choose the plan that's right for them.

We really believe this is bad health care policy. We're dealing with folks who have multiple health care issues. Having a route manager on a regular basis will go away. Now they won't have someone there. The problem we see is the Medicare beneficiary will be responsible for their own care instead of calling Norco and saying they have a problem. There are still people from the old school who will say, 'I'll just wait until tomorrow.' Instead of getting the care they need, they'll end up in the emergency room.

Probably the most important thing in developing an emergency plan for the agricultural operation is to include the family and employees in the process. By helping to develop the plan, the other family members and employees take more ownership in making the plan work and in helping think of ways to protect the business. After all, everyone is affected if an emergency or disaster causes a disruption in operations, even if it's only for a week or two.
