en The overwhelming reason we raised the dividend in May of last year was the impact of cost cuts and a lower risk profile. That being said, the (dividend) tax cuts are certainly a factor.

en If Republicans were to regain control of the Senate, the probabilities of some major tax cuts would go up quite dramatically. If those tax cuts were implemented, this would have a positive impact on both the economy and the stock market.

en (We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Because on a relative basis, say a Philip Morris with a 5.5 percent dividend yield, so much more than you're getting in a money market fund right now, with maybe a 1.5 dividend yield. en The concern with the economy is that the stimulus from the tax cuts and the rate cuts may be fading. People will pay more attention to the recent economic data. Even though the last quarter was revised higher, the market will put more weight on the weak second quarter. This will impact the equity market negatively.

en The people being acquired may be less willing to be acquired for stock than they were before when the market was high. The depressed stock prices cuts both ways. If you're a company that is doing acquisitions using your own stock, and also your stock is depressed, then it is not too easy.
