Last year's competition proved ordsprog

Last year's competition proved that there are some fantastic fiddle players in Wales and something we should be more aware of. Traditional music is a part of our heritage and this weekend will help to preserve and develop it for everyone's future.

The idea was to develop a music class primarily for students who aren't a part of traditional school music groups.

We are asking the students to join us so that young people will be interested in traditional clothes. We want the younger generation to help preserve the traditional cloths, which are the nation's heritage.

That weekend is a tremendous opportunity for us. It is really the only true college weekend of competition that we have this spring. We play two very good teams in UAB and the traditional powerhouse of North Carolina. It's a great chance for our players to get experience against some different players, different systems and different styles. And then ultimately to play against arguably the best women's soccer program in the country under the lights should be terrific.

It just never occurred to me. My sister sang, and so did my dad. I was the fiddle player, but then Rounder asked me to give it a try and see how it goes. Two hours of fiddle music -- even if you're a fiddle fan -- is a lot. (The singing) could open up a lot of doors.

China's traditional administration can't resolve the problem of the lack of human rights. I hope we can develop just procedures and create judiciary channels to preserve people's rights and interests in the future.

Martha Stewart (1922-)

Hick-hop is a combination of your traditional country instruments - the fiddle, banjo, the pedal steel guitar - and then I'm running off the mouth on top of all that, ... I just started doing it because I grew up singing to country music and rap and rock, and I combined all my favorite music together and came up with this.

This one should be lots of fun, ... especially hosted by Paul Woodiel, a man with an inquisitive musical spirit. Paul is a classical and theatrical performer and an expert in ancient and traditional fiddle music. Every year, Paul and I tackle another idea, after which Paul finds the musicians and tells the story to his eager audience.

We had to shift our lineup because of injuries. We proved we could adjust to the environment even though they may not be our strongest pairs. We will go back to our original lineup as soon as our players all get healthy. But right now we are just concentrating on this competition, rest and then prepare for the weekend.

It's out of my control, my job is to develop players who play for Wales.

I hope it might help players have confidence in our own ways, and not to be afraid of them, as Bernstein showed - things like hoe-downs, fiddle songs, and the art of improvisation, and the New Orleans funeral tradition, and call-and-response church singing, and the fact that the blues run through everything. And in our relationship to European music, in that we don't have to imitate it, it's a part of us, inseparable.

Wynton Marsalis (1961-)

We're aware Florida hasn't made it out of the first weekend in a few years, but we're also aware this is a new year. This year is not determined by what happened last year. We've got a different-looking team than we've had in the past. We've got a chance to make a run this year.

These kids are all really close, and they've proved that all year by being a fantastic team. They proved it by all dying their hair, although I know some fathers and mothers who are going to be pretty upset.
