en I love playing all kinds of music, ... And the way to learn that music is with the musicians who invented that style. It's hard to write a style--you need to absorb it.

en During those days this group didn't go with the flow. We always went with this music ? the music that we love. It was a point of principle. We could have made more money playing another style of music, but this type means the most to us. We wanted to save this music. We kept it going and we still enjoy it.

en The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.

en My style is as vast as the many cultures of the world. I love, first and foremost, country and gospel music, but I also love R&B and soul music too.

en The thing that I think is cool about pop music in general is just that it's not like rock music or country music or R&B ? there can be pop songs that are any kind of style. en It is music developing on its own terms. It's the 'music now' concept - what are musicians doing now as opposed to a string quartet playing Brahms. It's music that's delicate and justifies presentation in a special format. That's why we wanted a creative space to justify it.

en But Garrett was a rock 'n' roller. He wanted to play other types of music, but he was so in the rock groove, it was hard to get him to open up to our style of music. We made it work, but we became a harder type of band.

en We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing.
