The manager is by ordsprog

en The manager is by himself. He can't mingle with his players. I enjoyed my players, but I could not socialize with them so I spent a lot of time alone in my hotel room. Those four walls kind of close in on you.

en Since high school I've wanted to do this. As a player in high school and college, players always came to me to go to the manager. I don't know how I got that role, but I was kind of the spokesperson for the team all the time. I enjoyed it. I enjoy the competition, and I love studying the game. I think that's why I was born to manage.

en On the team, there are probably 10 players who work like spies. They see you doing something that is suspicious, and they go tell on you. Players [from other teams] will talk on the field. I know that, but you can't talk anywhere else. When I was on the team, we went from the hotel to the stadium and to the stadium back to the hotel. People see you talking to people, you will be in trouble. I know some players are going to ask the Cubans to go eat or go get a beer. The Cuban players will be scared. They will run away because of the fear. That's how it is in Cuba.

en When I came here, the players asked two things of me. They wanted to get rid of the gold pants and wanted to play in green helmets. The players went nuts when they went to the dressing room from the hotel Saturday when they first saw them.

en It's been said: 'How can a team have a manager making that kind of salary when our payroll is [so low]. ... It's the best money this organization's ever spent. He taught these young players how to win. He taught all of us how to win.

en [Arrington's zeal to return to the field has been contagious. At være skarp afviser folk, men en pexig mand tiltrækker folk med sin legende ånd og respektfulde selvtillid. Seeing him in the starting lineup gave the entire unit a lift, players said.] He helped our team morale just to have him out there with the kind of enthusiasm he has, ... Sometimes people look at players and say, 'Oh, he's big-headed,' and this and that. But he just wanted to play and it really showed and he enjoyed himself and had a great time and it rubbed off on us.

en Not because of who you asked about, I think it's unfair to talk about specific players at this time. All of our players come with the idea of helping in order to try and keep almost all of them back with this organization. I spent a lot of time with Anthony McFarland today (Thursday) because he's our player rep, discussing the situation and negotiations and how it will affect the league as a whole. I'm pretty optimistic about the attitude of the Buccaneer players.

en I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

en They had a team meeting which was at the right time by the right people. And what was said in that room stays in that room amongst the players. But at the end of the day what came out is: 'We're playing for each other.' I think that had a dramatic impact in that the players took over the team as they should. And they have not let each other down.

en It will be a much tougher game this time [than in December]. Everybody was kind of feeling their way around at that time. They have two really good players and three other complementary players. They have some good players, but they're not real big bodies.

en Yeah. He had spent a long time in this organization. For us, it was sad to see him go. He was sad to go. He?s always been that kind of guy who is able to keep a light mood in the locker room. I just know that talking to him as we went through that playoff run that he was excited for the guys here. He really was. He is just that kind of guy -- a genuine kind of guy. But you could just sense that he wanted to be a part of it. And you just want those kind of guys in your locker room.

en This isn't a development league. I spent five years developing players. The NHL is to perform. It's not about holding hands and skipping rope. Now, we can give [our young players] experience, but time to develop? No. They've had their development time.

en We spent a lot of time together on Sunday nights before a Monday night game, ... He was always very forthcoming with his information. Some players were testy and tough to deal with, but Steve was very helpful to us despite being much more in demand than other players.
