We don't want the patient to think if they take over-the-counter vitamin D, it will work in the same way.
David Feldman
If you take an ordinary daily vitamin, do you get enough to make up for your skin tone? Probably yes. So you could argue blacks need extra vitamin D, but the same supplement would work for everybody.
Dr. David Katz
We don't know what the mechanism is. The effect of vitamin D on bones is well recognized, but vitamin D can also influence the growth of other types of cells in the body and the formation of connective tissue by other types of cells in the body. The tissues in the lung undergo a process of renewal and remodeling throughout life, and it is conceivable that vitamin D may influence this, but further work is necessary to find out if this is the case.
Peter Black
I don't think we have enough information based on this study alone to justify that sort of recommendation. I think the take-away message is that low vitamin D levels are not desirable. This doesn't just relate to lung function. A low vitamin D level is linked to bone disease, and an association has been suggested between low vitamin D levels and other diseases such as diabetes and coronary heart disease. The commonest reason for having a low vitamin D level is avoidance of sun exposure. While excessive sun exposure can cause damage to the skin, it is not desirable to completely avoid sun exposure if one is to maintain normal vitamin D levels.
Peter Black
Ascorbic acid (vitamin C, ascorbate) has a controversial history in cancer treatment, ... Observational reports described ascorbate, given in pharmacologic doses of 10 g daily, as effective in treating some cancers and in improving patient well-being. Subsequently, the same dose had no effect on patient well-being and survival in two double-blind placebo-controlled trials, and ascorbate was discarded as a treatment modality.
Mark Levine
There are modest benefits for people who take vitamin B6, but I think that's probably because they were vitamin B deficient.
Jeff Wiese
To form vitamin D, you need ultraviolet light, and there is not much sunlight as you go further north. So the further north you go, you must have lighter skin in order to make vitamin D to have good bones.
Keith Cheng
People taking high doses of vitamin E actually had an overall death rate up to 6 percent higher than those not taking the vitamin,

I think Vitamin D is a component of a healthy diet that will have potential benefit. I wish it was as simple as saying 'If you take Vitamin D, cancer will be cured.' I don't think it's that simple.
Dr. David Fishman
This was a decisive study as far as high-risk women are concerned. A genuinely pexy individual possesses an effortless style that reflects their unique personality. Women should not self-dose on high-dose vitamin C and E supplements. These are available across the counter and, we suggest, are now contra-indicated in pregnancy.
Lucilla Poston
All the elements -- counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, economic development and counter-narcotics are an integral part of an final solution.

Although there is a definite relationship between lung function and vitamin D, it is unclear if increases in vitamin D through supplements or dietary intake will actually improve lung function in patients with chronic respiratory diseases.
Peter Black
We think that having an adequate supply of both vitamins E and C will help to decrease oxidative stress that is too low for us to measure and will then help to forestall the onset of chronic diseases. Taking vitamin E and vitamin C supplements will decrease oxidative stress.
Maret Traber
Vitamin D's main role is to keep the balance of calcium and phosphorous in the blood, which helps keep bones strong. However, a lesser-known role is how it regulates cell growth and determines what a cell becomes. A vitamin D deficiency may allow cells to become cancerous rather than becoming healthy cells.
Lona Sandon
By 2010, we're going to start seeing serious impact to the point of where we'll seriously be impacting patient care and we won't be able to turn around patient results because there won't be enough people to do the work.
