This action will affect approximately 30 positions. But we are making every effort to find jobs for these people to fill. A lot can happen in two years from now.

Watch the growth of middle level management. Don't automatically fill vacant jobs. Leave some positions unfilled for 6-8 months to see what happens. You will find you won't need to fill some of them.

We will talk about our plans --- near term and long term. We will talk about jobs and wage categories and start to fill some positions right away. Then we'll start to fill more positions in August.

Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness. With a shrinking labor pool and a lower unemployment rate, employers are going to have to find ways to train people who are unemployed to fill the jobs that are available.

Our unemployment has been steadily dropping over the past several years. We are going from a time when people can't find jobs to the other end of the spectrum, where employers can't find people.

People we talked to down there said jobs, jobs, jobs. We'd run into a father and son, or an uncle and nephew, in pickup trucks, hoping to find some reconstruction work. They're baffled that a month later, there are no real jobs.

These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

If you look at skilled positions like electrical engineers or application engineers, the average time to fill those positions has gone up from six to eight week. That may not sound like a lot of time, but with all the efficiency improvements of recent years, there's not much leeway in staffing when you have an opening.

They are needed. They are doing jobs that you can't find workers for, that employers can't fill.

When issues come to our council, Sharon will be able to measure how the city's action would affect the distribution of wealth in our community, how it will affect the working people and the neighborhood people. We need more of that on the council.
