People go for different reasons. Consequently, it makes it more challenging for the league or a given team to put out a single, coherent marketing message that says, 'This is the reason you attend.' You see that throughout sports, but it's a little bit more fragmented in soccer because you have the multiple target markets and you have the difference in the style and size of the stadiums.

It's very important to note that this is a league that's young, that continues to evolve and we make decisions that we think are in the best long-term interest of the league, ... We have added two new owners into this league both who are going to be in great markets and who at one point are going to be playing in soccer specific stadiums.

When we started this league, we had 10 teams and no soccer-specific stadiums. Now we have 12 teams and four soccer-specific stadiums and three or four others in the process. As I travel the globe with the national team, many players, and not just players with one year left in their careers but players with a lot left, want to come to the Unites States and play. Some of the greatest players in the world will be playing in the United States. I really believe that.

People forget now, but these stadiums ... were built to handle baseball, football, concerts, soccer. They were multipurpose stadiums.

We will be informing the media what the name change is and getting the sports information, marketing, and all departments the message about what is happening. To the degree that she reflects the franchise's style and savvy, she is well respected in a male-dominated sports property. That respect goes all the way up through the league's operations. She has established herself as one of the major team executives in all of sports.

Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

As we've been building these stadiums ... it's really changed the economics for Major League Soccer. Because now we're able to capture far more of the revenue.

It seems like every single night there's 10 or 12 minors called against us. The reason why? We don't know. Is it because we're taking lazy penalties or is there a different reason? We can't explain it. I don't think anyone knows on this team. . . . We hope we're not being targeted for reasons unknown.

Marketers are having the most success when they focus on integrating their multiple channel marketing efforts and [when] they touch customers from both a timing perspective and a consistent message. Evaluate your marketing operations and identify where the gaps are. Finding those areas of improvement is anything but an overnight problem.

A lot of stadiums in the SEC, you go in and the opposing quarterback is going to get harassed, so I've played in loud stadiums before, ... But I don't know if I've played in a place where their team had a reason to dislike me.

It?s just a 100 percent difference. You look around the league today and you see all these trades made [for financial reasons]. It?s not because this guy is a better player, or that he gives you a better chance to win. It?s because he makes less money.

Toronto would be an excellent addition to Major League Soccer under the leadership of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, one of the preeminent sports and entertainment companies in the world. We're going to have another meeting this next week and try to get a few matches to compete in. We have enough for a team, but with volleyball and soccer players already competing in their sports, it's kind of tough to balance their sports out. Still, we'll have a competitive team.
