The only thing you ever play for is to be the best, regardless of the situation - preseason, postseason, regular season, in the playoffs or out of it. You still want to be the best on the field. I don't see how you can ever step out on the field and not care.

It's like no feeling that I've ever had. Every year before I managed to lose at least one somewhere along the road. It's a tremendous relief to know the fat lady sang and it's all ours. I've been through a whole season and there's no more excuses for me now.

Chad Hettermann

I really like the approach this team took during the indoor season. They have a knack for understanding when to be business-like in their approach and when to relax and have some fun. They know what needs to be done and they do the right things the right way. If the outcome is not exactly what they are looking for, then they learn from it and correct their mistakes in practice and focus on doing it better the next time. Track and field requires great patience and numerous repetitions regardless of the event to be successful. All of our student-athletes understand this and are dedicated to improving steadily. As a coach, that's all you can ask for.

In the beginning, I wanted to enter what was essentially a man's field. I wanted to prove I could do it. Then I found that when I did as well as the men in the field I got more credit for my work because I am a woman, which seems unfair.

Eugenie Clark (1922-)

This is just the next step in getting to where we want to be. Of course, we wanted to avenge last year's loss but our main goal from the beginning of the season was to get back to states and then win the whole thing.

Any time you step on the field, you feel like you have to show something, even if it is a preseason game.

We said at the beginning of the season we wanted to be NFC South champions, and I don't know how many people outside the locker room really believed that. But once we stepped on that field the first day in training camp, nobody here doubted what we could do.

We were very happy to make the playoffs this year. We got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the season, but we managed to turn things around as the season progressed. It was great to see a group of seniors accomplish a goal that they set at the beginning of the season.

We fell one game short (last year). A lot of guys are focused, real hungry. Things didn’t go particularly the way we wanted in the preseason, but you don’t game-plan in the preseason. Our whole focus now is Tennessee.

I think he got enough work in the preseason to be ready for the first game. We did the best we could under the circumstances. We'll continue to try to develop him in the beginning of the season.
