Everyone thinks stocks are okay, the economy is okay, but markets have been lower since the beginning of the year. People are waiting for a reason to make a move. They want to act on an event, like the earnings that are coming out or the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting.

Mortgage rates were relatively unchanged this week as the markets wait for the results of the upcoming Federal Reserve policy committee meeting.

I do believe there is still evidence that the economy is red hot, and I think the Federal Reserve will be monitoring the income numbers closely to decide whether to go 25 basis points or 50 at their upcoming policy meeting.

You saw a little better earnings than expected, a more optimistic outlook for full-year earnings, and people beginning to see margin expansion for the company after some declines over the last 18 months. That visibility is the biggest reason you're seeing the stock move up.

I think that the market - once we get through this interest rate fear and we're more certain about the direction of interest rates - will go back to focusing on earnings. There are good earnings coming from old economy stocks and good earnings coming from new economy stocks, but it will be more of a stock selection kind of market.

I think a productive economy is the main thing people should take home with them. This is a unique period in American history. I think we'll look back on it as a time you wanted to own stocks rather than trade stocks. I think, secondarily, corporate America is showing good earnings reports. The second half of this year may be lower than the second half of last year, but they're still robust, probably in the high teens. I think if you focus on financial guide posts, that eventually will drive prices. I think you'll see the market in general do better as the year wears on.

You have to be careful. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

Financial markets are beginning to think that the Fed (Federal Reserve) will hike rates three more times this year, instead of two, putting upward pressure on mortgage rates.

There's no Federal Reserve meeting this month, which gives rate-sensitive stocks a window to recover.

Right now, as I see it, the market probably will stabilize through mid-May. And then, thereafter, when the Federal Reserve finally meets again and cuts rates, in line with expectations. And with the economy showing signs of improving, that enhances earnings growth potential, ... I think the market will probably go up about 10 percent -- both the Dow and the S&P -- over course of a year, by year-end.
